Chief, are we afraid of points leaving, or more points coming? (the suspense is killing me!)

Cheers to first place!

How many folders do you have running? Over 10000 ppd. Making it really hard to try and catch.

The Farm is 7 Clients, spread across 5 pc's

2 Q6600's running 2 SMP each

3 E6400's running 1 SMP each

the recent bump in PPD, is just due to the rash of big Wu's in the last couple of weeks

{ we talked about those in another thread. } When these go away, and we get back to the run of the mill wu's I expect the PPD to drop to about 8 1/2 K

wow.

You have 7 clients running. No wonder I can't compete with that. LOL

And I'm still upset I can't get those 3065's.

I've got 2 of the 2144 pointers running now.

I can't believe I'm going to try to help the competition, but here goes.

If your still running 2 virtual sessions of ubuntu on top of a native install of ubuntu. I have to believe thats the hang up.

If you want to give it another try, this is exactlly how I set up my quads.
I'm useing fedora {your on your own with ubuntu}

1. I only use 1 native install of Linux

2 set up 2 folders
Fold & Fold2

3. download F@H into each folder { each folder has it's own fresh copy }

extract as necessary ( only leave the new FAH6 & mpiexec )

4.open a terminal window
do a CD to Fold
set up the config file with ./fah6 -smp -configonly

I select advmethods and tell it not to disable assembly {whatever} and to ask for Big wu's
at the end I give it a machine Id of 1

5. open a second terminal window
cd to Fold2

repeat step 4. { at the end give this one Machine ID 2 }

doing it this way , each Config file thinks it's the only one running and it has all 4 cores.

Close out all Terminal windows { you don't have to } I just like to start fresh.

Now to Launching

open a Term.
cd to fold

Launch useing taskset

taskset 0x00000003 ./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9

minimize this window

open a second Term
cd to fold2

launch with

taskset 0x0000000C ./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9

I'm sure that Ubuntu will require you have some Admin level privliges to use taskset

With fedora I logged in as Su and gave myself Root Level access.

If it does'nt help
There's always NewEgg and more Quads.

I actually moved away from the virtual machines after our previous conversation.

I did everything you mentioned above, except when doing the configonly, i ddin't use the smp tag with it. I just use the smp tag when getting ready to run.

I'll try that.

And competition is fun. Helps push us further.

EDIT: I just tried to set it up again. Still getting either 2605 or 2653.

Well, boys, I bought another Quad 6600 when they were on sale at Microcenter for $200(retail). When I get the time to purchase the rest of the parts, should be able to boost my numbers a bunch. Maybe I'll put an SMP on my D915.
Had to drop Hyper-threading on my dual Xeon. Was getting 4 hrs per frame, changed to 1 client per CPU, Frame time dropped to less than 1hr per frame and this was on the same running core.

If you get another quad, then I'm going to have to build another system just to compete.

I plan of getting one of the new quads when they come out anyway.

A thought just popped into my head { yes it hurt }

The client keeps updateing the performance factor as Wu's are returned showing how much time is remaining to the prefered deadline

mine is fairly stable at around .68

if that number is part of the selection process to determine which Wu's to down load.

you might have to run through a few useing the trial configuration, to establish a baseline
