Thumbs up Fresh Meat

Welcome aboard to RobertC and tbtusk;

Robert has jumped 67 spots on his first day of folding. Thanks the team needs all the help it can get to stop our downward slide in the standings.
It looks like your folding the GPU2 client exclusively, What card are you using, and what times are you seeing for Wu completion?

tbtusk has only been with us a couple of days, and is moving up rapidly also.

How about letting us know some hardware details. We all like to know what rigs people are using to fold?

Count me in. I just installed 2 console clients on my E8400 and the GUI client on my 2.53 Northwood. The E8400 is running at 56c and the Northwood is running at 49c, both stock Intel coolers and no overclocking.

I've been putting the PS3 to work... my understanding is it runs through the work units insanely fast... so I fire up in the evening to crank a couple out.

GPU client churned out 9 WU's overnight, and about 1700 points. I would like to leave my pc on a lot more but I'm paranoid about something happening while I'm not on the PC. Plus power is getting expensive. But I should be able to get about 3-4 days worth a week, minus the time I want to play a game.

GLC, try running an smp client instead of two text clients.

I read the installation instructions and can't be bothered. When it comes out of beta and it installs and configures as easily as a text client, I'll do it. When I break down the Northwood and put Linux on it, I'll run the best client on that one, I installed the GUI on it for now just to get it cooking.

I'd run a GPU and a text client except my 8600GTS has a passive cooler and I don't want to cook it.

Thanks for the welcome. Right now im running two computers, 5 clients.

The first is my older dell. it's got a 2.8ghz Pentium D that is running one GUI and one text client. I don't really use that computer anymore, and I've been running it 24/7. I think I'll try the SMP client on that as soon as I can.

The second comp is my new build. That one has a Q9300, and I'm running three text clients. I'm not planning on switching to the SMP, but if I get it going on the first machine, I might give it a shot. Maybe I'll try the GPU client on the 9800GTX as well....

I'm lucky with the energy price problem. I'm 16, so my parents could easily say enough is enough, but we live on campus at the school which my step dad works for and I go to. The school pays the electrical bill.

*sigh*. Looks like I won't be folding on my GPU for a while, just got 3 BSODs while running F@H GPU stating that the driver nv4_disp.dll got stuck in an infinite loop. I've started a thread in the Video forum about this.

I just added 4 more cores today - a E7200 and a E2180. Thanks to my stepdaughter!

I am down to 2 part time cores till late next week - one of my stepdaughter's machines barfed its hard drive and I had to shut my router off while I'm out of town.

Posted from my laptop on a library wifi.

I've been thinking of asking the school IT admin about getting F@H running on the L1 computer lab PCs (about 30 E2160's), But I'm not sure how this would work. The only thing they are used for internet and office work so running a single threaded client 24/7 should work. Or since they don't get used between 4pm and 7am, running a SMP client in those hours may churn out more WU's. Problem is getting it working on the computers. Every student has their own user account and I can't see a way to have F@H running even without a user logged in (as they are most of the time). Not to mention the pain in the rear of setting it up on that many computers.

Looks like a new GPU client is out. I was greeted by a mysterious "This beta has expired" pop up this morning. Took me a while to figure out what it was. They now have a console/service version. Seems to be running a bit smoother. Hopefully I will be able to keep it running while using my computer, which is why my points were unpredictable. Don't know how many times I forgot to unpause work. Should also check for a driver update as well...

I downloaded the new GPU client yesterday, the only difference I can see is they have disabled the viewer, now it only shows a test protien instead of the actual core (which is where the viewer problems are).

Well, I just got a new e8400 to replace my e6750, so I should be adding a few more ppd.

Also just picked up a q9450 so I can try and compete with dschief. Hopefully I'll have that up and going in about a week.

If IT sets up the text-only console on each box as a service, the client will fold even while the computer sits at the Windows login screen I believe.

Once again my PPD is dropping for no reason. It seems I can run a client for a few months with good performance and then it stops. Happened when I had two instances of the regular client and now it's happening with the SMP client. Stanford must not like me.

Are you going to pair up the new Quad with a hot graphics card. I've been following the
discussion about the new GPU2 client. And people are reporting some crazy PPd's.
A Q9450 ; 4 gig's of ram, run 2 Gpu cards & the SMP client on the remaining 2 cores

You could probably pull down 12 to 13 K PPD

Had to totally redone my SMP clients, had a brown out yesterday completely trashed my SMP clients. They wouldn't even start, nuked the whole client and downloaded 6.22. Still need to do the dual CPU unit, running regular clients at the moment. Going to put my old Pentium D back on-line.

Bah... the console client still slows my pc down At least it doesn't totally lock up my computer like the old graphical client did.

Looks like I'm going to be out of it for a week or so. Waiting on some parts, and then have to take the time to oc everything.
