F@H disconnects my DSL when trying to send work units
This is starting to drive me nuts. More often than not, my DSL disconnects when F@H is trying to send completed work units. It's not dropping sync, it's disconnecting my PPPoE session. Details:
AT&T DSL Modem: Actiontec bridge modem Router: WRT54G v2, DD-WRT mini v23 SP2 XP, E8400, console client 5.04, 2 instances Win7, E4700, console client 6.23, 2 instances I do not get disconnects doing any other kind of uploads - FTP, email, AIM. It tries port 8080, disconnects, then tries port 80, disconnects, gives up till later, then same stuff all over again till it finally sends. Client.cfg files below. XP core 1: Code:
[settings] username=glcpcmech team=13761 asknet=no bigpackets=yes machineid=1 local=529 [http] active=no host=localhost port=8080 usereg=no [clienttype] type=3 Code:
[settings] username=glcpcmech team=13761 asknet=no bigpackets=yes machineid=2 local=531 [http] active=no host=localhost port=8080 usereg=no [clienttype] type=3 Code:
[settings] username=glcpcmech team=13761 passkey= asknet=no machineid=1 local=21 [http] active=no host=localhost port=8080 usereg=no [clienttype] type=3 [core] addr= Code:
[settings] username=glcpcmech team=13761 passkey= asknet=no machineid=2 local=24 [http] active=no host=localhost port=8080 usereg=no [clienttype] type=3 [core] addr= |

I wonder if it you need to create a pinhole in the firewall built into the router. I had to do that when I setup the farm at home. I got the info on the F@H forum.

Why would that disconnect PPPoE? It's not getting blocked because it eventually sends.

I do NOT put any faith in the Actiontec modem.....Verizon is giving those ouyt and I have burned up 2 of them...
I had to set the MTU to 1492 to even keep it from over heating and needing a hard reset... as far as i am concerned those are crap at best... I have NO issue with my DSL dropping sending WUs home...I have 6 PCs folding and 8 running total and those 2 are online gaming (monster-in-law) so I would hear 1st hand of any dropping (EverQuest) and I have no logs of dropping.... you might want to question the modem or try another one if you can...I'll bet it may not be liking the extra load... and I have not had to forward any ports for folding at all...either in the routher (Dlink 704P) or in the OS...

I have several modems around here, and the Actiontec works better than any of the rest of them. The Broadxent Broadband Blasters and Westell C90's I have here drop sync a lot more often than the Actiontec. F@H is not causing it to drop sync, it's disconnecting the PPPoE session. This is not the same model that Verizon gives out, it's a straight bridge modem. It's a ED800TA, part of the old AOL DSL kits. MTU is manually set to 1492 in the router. I can upload large files with FTP or AIM with no problem, at full advertised speed.

Maybe DD-WRT is contributing to the issue?

Oh well - the XP box is pretty much cooperating now, but the Win 7 box is hopeless. Both cores now have several work units in queue that refuse to send, and it still disconnects when trying. The Win 7 box is just a mobo sitting on the table anyway and I have decided that I cannot stand Win 7, so I took it offline. Maybe I'll put Linux on it and play with it.

Don't know if it's of any use to you, but I've been running with a Siemens Speedstream 4100. for over a year now with barely a hick-up. It's being fed 4 Linux SMP clients along with 4 GPU Clients. I've witnessed concurrent uploads of 2 SMP clients.
with no trouble. things do slow down though. |
