Post folding with GTX480

The GTX480 according to this article will do 3.5 times more work on folding@home per day than the GTX285 did previously.
Problem will be heat and power management, those cards use up a lot of power and amps and run really hot, so you really can't put them in any old PC case, so installing 2 in one case is going to be a challange. I have odered 2 of them, they will be here shortly, I will post pictures of the build and give you some figures.

Eagerly awaiting the results.

Are you planning to just test them or to add them to your farm and keep folding with them?

I am adding them to my farm and getting rid of some of the older cards. Those 2 480s should give me 70k a day by themselves hopefully, they are rated at 35k a day each.

Here is the Hardware I plan on using-
Antec TPQ-1200 1200W Continuous Power
ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3
2GB DDR3 memory and an 80GB Sata HDD
I am not going to use a case, I am going to have the local Aluminum workshop make me an open frame that will fit the motherboard with a craddle for the power supply and a card clamp to keep the cards in place. I think an open frame will offer much better for cooling.

That looks like it'll speed up that wheel in your power meter a little but 35k from a single card is impressive. 70k is pretty much what were doing as a team right now so thats a going to give us a nice bump. For the last few months I've really contemplated setting up a folding farm myself but since I'll be going to college I know I need to save my money but it is very tempting. I guess my 13k will have to do till I'm done school.

Fermi is not folding I didn't receive my 480s yet due to shortage but I did get 2 470s and F@H is erroring. I contacted the folks at F@H and they told me to be patient as the client is not ready yet

I am going to be reducing the size of my farm for a short period of time while I get rid of the older cards before they become worthless, I have a bunch of GTS250s that I need to sell, soon they will be worthless if I don't.
I will be adding 4 x 470s and 2 x 480s to my farm and keeping the 2x GTX275s I am running now. I just hope Fermi starts working on the F@H client pretty soon.

There no news at the F@H Forum : http://foldingforum.org/index.php

So we'll just have to wait for the announcement.
