Folding@Home

Okay, so with my new computer, I want to join the folding team here at PCMech and just want to know:

What version of F@H do I download? The systray version or the client one?

Whichever one you want. If you are running a quad core, I'd recommend the SMP client. If you need help configuring it, please post back.

Yea, I'll probably need help then. I'll go with the SMP client. Why not put my quad-cores to use? =p

Yeah the SMP client is the one you want for that CPU. You can get it here, it's the one at the bottom of the page. Folding@home - DownloadWinOther

You will want a passkey which you can get here. Folding@Home

And this is a pretty good guide for installing and configuring the client. Folding@home - WinSMPGuide If you're not sure about something let us know.

Which SMP Client should I get? Some of them I have read are for NVIDIA GPUs only.

I think I got it running, I'm not sure.. The command prompt is supposed to be open when the client is folding correct?

And it shows like 0 out of 200000 steps completed.. That means it's running correct?

You want the SMP client which is a CPU client, not a GPU client.
Yeah that means it's running, what project is it working on?

Hopefully it's working correctly... it says it's completed 80,000 steps out of 2,000,000 steps....

Project is 6701, idk what that means though.. Also, what should I be running my CPU at in the config? I set it at the default (which I think was 100). Is that okay, or should I go lower?

One last question, if I were to turn off the folding at home client, will it resume the same project I was working on, or should I just let it continue and not turn it off?

I always leave mine set to 100 and it would continue with the same work unit if you shut it off. It is best to let it finish each work unit with out stopping it for too long because they need the results for the next step. Also, you get more bonus points the sooner yo finish it.
