It's Folding Season Again
I just recently remembered to start folding again after shutting down for the summer. Judging by our point production it seems that I may not be the only one so here's a friendly reminder
.Since I last folded, the new Folding@Home v7 Client Beta has been released and I really like it. First of all, it makes the installation much easier than before. You simply choose whether you would like to fold with your CPU or GPU or both and it just works, no need to choose which client to download. Another really great feature that some here will appreciate is the FAHControl front-end which allows you to monitor and control folding on your machine. The REALLY nice thing is that you can also remotely monitor and control clients running on other computers. Through the FahControl interface on my main machine I can monitor and start/stop folding on my server and other machines easily. Get the V7 client: https://fah-web.stanford.edu/project...ki/BetaRelease Install guide: Folding@home - WinGuide If you are new to folding or wondering what it is, here is a basic description taken from this thread: WHAT IS FOLDING AND WHY JOIN? They use the information to help cure diseases like Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease. The program runs in the background and doesn't interfere with other programs. It uses the spare CPU cycles that other programs don't use.” Originally posted by lil Jimmie: “Our ranking helps boost moral within the team and keeps some users folding when they may lose sight of the ultimate goal. We all know the main goal is to help mankind with our efforts, although the higher our rank and the more units we complete, the more data we supply the scientists and expose PCMech to those other teams we pass or pass us.”
