I've got 2 questions
What "client" is everyone using?? Just curious...
And, how do you enter the various commands in the Console Client?

I'm using the "Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP Graphical client" (Thats the one that is reccomended for all Windows version).

The screensaver version only runs when the screensaver turns on. But thats kind of stupid because it can run even when you are using your computer because it only uses the processor power that you're not using.

I've never used the Text Only Console, so I can't help you with that Scott_d. I suggest you download the graphical Client.

Current Folding@Home Projects:

Here's a list of the current projects the Folding@Home scientists are working on. This list will give you info about each protein your computer might be working on - how many atoms it is made up of, and, more importantly, how many points you gain from each WU. Check it out!

Yeah, I was watching the percent of my completed work unit and rebooted and it was back at zero percent. However, it was a restart after a freeze. Maybe that's the reason. I'll turn it off normal and see if I lose my 7 percent I just gained overnight.

EDIT: Okay, that must be the key. I am now at 8 percent completion. I only lose it if it's after a freeze up or hang.

There is a small conflict between Windows XP, Folding@Home, and some graphics cards which cause this problem: (see screenshot)

If this occurs on your computer, there is a quick patch to fix it which can be found at:

Well.. I'll be joining you all. Just downloaded it and will be installing it soon. Just a quick question. With this program running will it effect any games I might be running as well?

No, it won't affect the performance of your computer. The Folding@Home program only uses the processing power that isn't being used by another program. So if you're playing a game, the Folding@Home will take the 'backseat' and only use what processoring power the game doesn't need.

And, you can always turn off the Folding@Home program whenever you want.

Welcome to the Team!

Congrats on your first WU "Timmaay!" Do you have any idea why it only gave you 1 point though? That seems strange....

Rave: We'd love for you to switch from the SETI project over to Folding@Home. Folding@Home is a way to help your fellow mankind, help cure diseases, and save lives. While some disagree, I view these goals as a lot more important that looking for 'Aliens'.

Homer15: Are you sure you have the PCMech.com Team # correct? It is #13761. Did you sign up with the User Name 'homer15'?

yup, it's all correct... i let it run overnight on my machine here at work, so it's quit possible that something is going awry when i'm not here.
