Welcome to all the new members! If you haven't read the articles that David posted, you should. Some great stuff about F@H and also some good tweaking options.

I know one of the articles stated there was very little impact caused by Folding in the background, but have you checked temps? While running Folding (even at standard processor speed), my temp would hover near 50C. When I looked back in the temp history tho, anytime a fold was completed and the processor idle, temps dropped to @35C.

I also found that I couldn't run some graphics intensive games (like 1942) with Folding on in the background. It would cause crashes back to Windows.

Not trying to disparage Folding, as I will continue to keep 2 machines working. Just something to watch is all...

Kov-Ice, the CPU is running at 100% capacity for a long period of time. The temps will stay up there a bit, just because of the processor usage. You have great cooling, though, since it cools down so fast at idle.

As far as the games go, I haven't had any problems with BF1942 running with F@H. Do you have the priority set to lowest, or did you increase it, to get more CPU usage for F@H while using your machine?

My processor runs at 57*C at 100 %. This is another reason i dont want to leave my pc on 27/7 to fold. Upgrading my heatsink soon so hope that helps.

set to lowest but direct x v9 only and a older vid driver once updated every thing works grate i need to get folding on the other computer on the network but i want to test it fully first as the other computers are critical to the bissniss and we cant have any problams with them at all

I'm at lowest priority, tho cpu usage is all the way to the right, which I think is 100% when not in use by another app.

The new drivers I just put on for vid card did not help, but I still have DirectX 8.1 on. Think x9 will make a difference?

QUESTION: My slower computer dials up, sends results, and receives new work package in a matter of seconds. The faster of my two takes nearly 10 mins to upload/download info. They are on the same slow dial-up connection. Why is that?

The Folding@Home Application benchmarks your computer at some point....if you have a slower computer, you will download smaller proteins to fold. The faster computer will get the larger ones, so that may be why it takes longer for it to download/upload.

LOL. From what I read last night, we are going to need all the help we can get saving on the gas bill this winter. Prices for natural gas are going to increase 30% here in Minnesota.

Joined last night! 1st WU is 80% complete.

CPU temp 46-48C, mobo 32C. I am thinking of OC'ing my 2.6 to at least 3.0. I will read on it and see if I can.

Thumbs up

Oh yeah we're climbing up the charts. I'll OC when I get 2 more fans. I want to keep the temp in the mid 40s C. I know I don't have to. But for $9 on 2 Antec fans, I'll do it.

Joined 3 days ago, just in time for one small wu and now I'm on the second.
It doesn't seem to be stessing the comp and I'm not having heat problems.
I let the comp pick up whenever I'm on-line but I don't pause it.
Should I ?

I dout we'll beat google any time soon, or any of the top 50, we just don't have enough computers going yet. Maybe if some more join we'll be able to.

I'm trying to get my mother to buy me a laptop by telling her it will help cure Parkinson's because "If we have another computer running folding at home it will help scientist lern more about proteins."

I work as a bookkeeper for a small company. I also maintain the office PCs and network. We have another company that takes care of the system also but they usually go to me first. I have the admin pw and I am pretty much the admin for the production area and office administration PCs.

I'll talk to my supervisor if I can put them to work at night. The production workstations should be able to crunch 500 level proteins in less than 24hrs. I can easily get 10 P4 2.4Ghz. We also have a few P3 oldies that can be of some help.

Keep your fingers crossed. Worst they can do is say no.

Argh!!!!! Just when I have a unit ready to upload my broadband goes down. I am on dialup at the moment and I'm not going through the hassle to setup ICS on my network so the units will have to wait. I will be able to upload the unit off of my main pc tonight which is at 89% and the other two will be later which one is idle with a unit to upload and the other is at 70%.

This P4 will put out.... temps are at 40C and running at 50% cpu usage, gotta luv HT'ing!
