Kubie, I have been using Mozilla Firebird for about 2 months and only been doing the Folding@home for 24hrs and no problems thus far. My broadband did go down on me tonight, but I don't feel it is because of the two.

I don't think folding at home has anything to do with your web browser.
I'm running firebird and no problems. |

DarkHorse and Jimmie, you actually can run two instances of F@H on an HT P4. The directions are in this article that david posted earlier:
http://maximumpc.com/features/feature_2003-06-10.html Haven't tried it yet, but I just printed out the instructions to try it... |

Singly, or two on each comp? Three times two is six, y'know.

lil jimmie,
The reason I asked is because when I want to see User Stats or Team Stats or My Folding in the Stats menu, each one takes me to a TV website called vh1.com. After much discussion, kinda narrowed it down to Mozilla Firebird. Does it on 2 pcs' and I even tried the F@H beta. Everything else works like its suppose too. Carl |

Hi Kubie, I don't have Firebird set as the default browser so IE still does tasks like look up the stats and stuff. I learned long ago to leave IE as the default because of problems like you are having.

OK, regarding two instances of F@H...
I have the second up and running right now, and it was fairly easy. Mistake I made was trying to run the folding GUI in two places. The second instance must be just the console (text-based) version. After that, smooth sailing. |

Yeah Mystic, come on over
![]() Personally, I don't believe the SETI program will ever accomplish anything. Looking for aliens.... its not going to happen. Who says Aliens use radio waves anyways? In the grand timeline of a civilization, radio waves will probably only be used for several hundred years....and if the universe is several billion years old...and infinitely big..... I just don't think its going to happen. The Folding@Home project is working on a problem that is a lot closer to being solved than finding Aliens. And the Folding@Home project will help Save lives, not find little green aliens that try to take over Earth.

Well, I don't know about any of the other programs, but has Folding@Home saved any lives yet? No. It has, however, gathered a huge amount of data that a year ago, scientists didn't have. For more info on what Folding@Home has accomplished, go to the main Folding page at:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/ and check out the 'Results' and 'Press' Sections. Here's an interesting article about Folding: http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?click...5S432&set_id=1 |

I have my K6-2 running full time with nothing else to do but FAH, and it's been going for 2 or 3 days and it's onlt at 41/400 ofit's first WU. Meanwhile, the AthlonXP 2800 that I'm using now keeps getting paused, and hasto deal with me doing other things, and I'm already more than half done with its second WU.
just an observation over the change in processing power over 5 years. |

Let's see; the first WU I got was 200. The second was 400. The third was 500. And my current one is 2500.
I didn't know I had that many spare cycles !

Well I have had plenty 250, 500 and a few 400's but no 2500 yet.
Five days and 18 units I guess that's not bad with 4 pc's, the pc in my sig mowing down 9 of them. |

Weird, I hadn't gotten a 2500 since I started. Now I've gotten 3 in a row... The 400 is the only one that takes my 2.4gig system longer than a day. The 2500 was downloaded last night @ 10 pm and finished at 6pm this evening. Go figure.
