...the amount of 250 size work units?
I have F@H on 5-pcs of various speeds. From 3.166, 2.6, 2.0, Cely 566, and Pll 266?. It has made no difference which pc gets which work unit. It will send a 125 to the 3.166 and the time consuming 400 to the Pll. Lately, all pcs have been getting 250 size and now finally one has gotten a 400 to work on. Any ideas what is going on? Carl |

When I first started FAH I ran only the graphical version and did notice that my one AMD would get a certain size of WU while the others ( Intel P4's) would get alot 400 WU's, but after going to the text version I get a mix of WU's to all of my PC's.

lil jimmie,
All of mine are set up with the graphical versions. Have to learn how to find out how the folding is going if I should go with the text version. Thanks for your reply. Carl |

The text console just has a different interface much like a command prompt.
I uploaded a pic for an example. |

My PIII graphic client gets 400s without fail. I don't recall it getting anything else in the 15 or so it has done. I have the graphic and the console on my P4. They usually finish about the same time, and it seems that they download the same WU as one another nearly every time, though they get a good mix.

That seems odd kubie. I've gotten almost the whole array of WU's (never a 400 though). I've recently gotten 250, 500, and yesterday I got a 2500.

I've gotten 3 2500's in a row.

Hi,
I'm interested in joining this project but I'm a little worried about how much power it will take from my Pc. I do quite a bit of online gaming with Call of Duty and other CPU demanding games. Will these games run the same while i have the folding going on in the background? |

There are many of us that game while running F@H in the background. I run 2 instances of F@H and play UT03 all the time with no problems. I say try it and if you think its pulling too much from your gaming then turn it off or don't run F@H

Since I started this thread, things seem to have gone back to normal with various W/U's d/l'ing.
I get 2500, 400, 500, and 250's at random. Carl |

Agreed, I also run two instances and play quite demanding games, i.e. Max Payne 2, GTAIII, and UT with no noticeable hiccups. They did a good job of minimizing the program, so it only takes what your computer isn't otherwise using at the moment. I think there's an analysis of F@H's impact on some benchmarks here. There's more in depth info thereabouts if you need it.

I play COD often, and I have two instances of F@H running in the background at the same time. I have experienced some programs that are a little more touchy about it, but I just shut down F@H and restart it later as needed.

I have slight trouble when I am multi-tasking heavily.
photoshop 7, multiple instances of FP200, OE6, opera 7.23, IE6, a hefty download or two, musicmatch 7.5, winamp 2.8 and various other minor progs and about 8-10 apps in the background. |

Installed the linux version of F@H and it drained resources like crazy. I was on another computer hooked up to the cable router and I was kicked off FFXI and it wouldnt let me connect. Removed F@H and everything worked fine. Do the settings need to be different for the Linux version rather than the Windows? I have it on both my newly built AMD 2500 and P3 laptop and both run it fine. Why was the network being drained? Sorry this is probably in the wrong thread but realized it after typing all this and now I'm just gonna leave it.

I'm not familiar with Linux, but is there both a graphic and a console version? It seems on the Windows based interfaces, the graphic can sometimes cause a bit of difficulty, while the console or text version runs without interfering with anything. Dunno if that would have to do with your connection tho.

linux version was text based only, very odd but maybe you cant use the same adv settings that you can with windows. Oh well, 2 comps is better than 0.

If by settings you're talking about flags in the command line, I thought I saw a listing of different flags for Linux on the F@H site.

Nope I haven't seen that yet. I've just been hit with a bunch of Tinker WU in the last week.

Apparently that is a Genome@Home project. I was told the server will send them out from time to time if it is out of folding projects (?) or something, even if you have F@H only checked in your client. The results go under project 799 in your folding stats. Just weirded me out seeing something unfamiliar there, but it's nice to know officially what it is.
enhanced, what's up with your client? |

Mine seems to be slowing down as well. It's taking over a day to complete a 250, when I can usually knock out at a couple of them in a day.
