What's wrong?
It seems like people are losing interest. We hardly ever get any new members and even this forum is turning into a ghost town.

There haven't been alot of new members lately, but there's still a solid core of people participating. Not alot of new posts as everyone's pretty much settled into the process, I guess, but the view count continues to climb on the Info post and others. Just keep talking it up to others - it's all for a good cause.

I'm still here...I've been super ultra busy the past few weeks...and on top of all that, my hard drive died on me....so I was out of commission for a week while I waited for my RMA drive to get here. Hopefully I'll have some more free time and I can get back in the F@H ring!

Are we allowed to send PM's to random people telling them to start folding? If so we should make up a small little Signiture type thing where we can just cut and paste it with all pertinant info about our team and why they should do it. Everyone foliding send out like 10-20 of them and I think we can start to grow a lot more. Also, I dont think we're allowed to advertise on other boards but can we get a link type banner that directs people to the folding/distributed computer forum?

I don't think we should start spamming the members here at PCMech telling them to join. I for one would not have joined if I were told to join.
I would like to see more members join but I feel that spamming the members is not a good idea. Just my 2 cents

Don't even think of spamming other members or other forums.

When I joined the team a lil over 5 months ago there were only 52 members and we were ranked around 520 in the standings. I think the volunteer "if you want to contribute" approach has served us well. I have no problems if you want to include a stat signature or link to the Distributed Forums here at PCMech, I have a link to one of the threads in my sig. I just think it's a bit tacky to PM the members to persuade them to join, I know other teams have used this approach, but I would rather have members join because they want to contribute and not because they feel they have to contribute as a member of PCMech forums.
peter8d9, I wasn't singling you out for the PM idea, you weren't the one who first mentioned it. I know if some of us were to send out random PM's, it wouldn't be long before some of us would hear from Dok or Glc. If you have friends on here or someone you PM or chat with a lot then I feel it's a different story and by all means ask them. EDIT- BTW I have added another box to my lil farm and if I get the time this weekend (after helping a friend move) I hope to add one more

Totally agree w/ Jimmie. It's a volunteer thing. I've been guilty of bumping a Folding post in the General section a few times to try to get some air time for the cause, but someone's got to want to join to actually go through with it. If everyone who is currently folding put a link to the Folding or Info thread in their signature, then that may at least increase visibility of the Team a little bit.
Here's the text for the link in my signature, except replace the parentheses () with brackets []: (size=2)(b)- - - Join PCMech's Folding@Home Team and Help Save Lives! (URL=http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82025)(color=red)Click Here!(/color)(/URL) - - -(/size)(/b) |

Volunteerism is very good, though a banner throughout the website might help some as well.

Well, hopefully there will be a small influx of people joining. I've been asking a few friends of mine to get it. Everyone should im up like 5-10 friends and convince them to join. If just 2 people joined from everyone we'd triple our numbers.
