So if you click on multiplayer then internet it scrolls through the available servers on the right. Then you click on a game and hit connect, or for that matter double click on one of the available servers and it should automatically connect you to that server. Don't try to create game. I am at work, so if this is where you are getting stuck, I will try to help more when i get home so I can look at the interface and possibly step through it better. with the weapons, I am not sure about your mouse but one work around is that you can use your number keys(haven't tried the 10key yet) to skip thru weapons faster. The only issue with that is remembering which number gets to which weapon, that will come with playing more. I still pull out my plantation knife when i am dancing around in a one on one and the guy ends up shooting me with a L.A.W. I will mess with my cordless mouse when i get home and see what i can do as well.
PS. If you do get to the part where you enter a server you may have to go down to the bottom of that page and click enable punkbuster, as most all servers are punkbuster enabled adn won't allow you in until you are as well. punkbuster is supposedly the anti-cheat set-up. You might be behind a firewall as well. I run zonealarm and only have the original battlefield, but I know that if I've updated or reinstalled either, a little zonealarm window will pop up from my taskbar asking me to either allow or not allow a program (in this case battlefield) from accessing the internet. It'll do this when I click the server list update button while in the game. Until I click yes on the zonealarm window, then no servers will appear. The problem is the window does not show up while in battlefield, you can only see it when you minimize the game...you wouldn't know it appeared unless you knew what to look for and when to look for it. Maybe you dont have this problem at all, but your solution may be a as simple as this.

Good point, I had forgotten that as well. If you do have zonealarm and it freezes on the internet option like explained in the above reply, I would click the Y key for yes allow and then after I would go into zonealarms and change it to always allow.
