Hello Experts,
My friend wants to upgrade his Dell Celeron 433(?) from the built in graphics to a 3D video card. He is playing Flight Sim European Theater and complains the vid is choppy. Otherwise, I don't really know what to advise him, because I'm in the stone age with my PI-200. cabbie. |

If he's playing it in OpenGL or DirectX then he would benefit from a GeForce 256 DDR or (and I cringe to say this) a Voodoo 3. Even a TNT2 Ultra would probably pep up his gaming considerably. Just depends on what he's willing to spend.

Thanks Guys,
Floppyman, you are right about MS Flight Simulator. He's a pilot and just got both European Theater and Pacific Theater(?) the other day. I understand your question about the RAM, it might be inadequate and probably the first place he should upgrade. I sent Mike an email and I'll report when I hear. It sounds like his budget is around $100 for the card because he wants to get a subwoofer and a better joy stick. Thanks, cabbie. |

If he has no AGP slot he'll need a PCI vid card, which pretty much narrows things down to a Voodoo3. Should be able to get a Voodoo3 3000 and 64 megs of RAM for right at 100 bucks online, so that'd be my choice on that budget.

Hello
I would reccomend a ATI Radeon PCI for the graphics card. Great card for cheaps. Also if you want an AGP, a Gerforce MX is the way to go. You can get those fairly cheap, and if you OC, you can get higher performance our of them. |

I have an ASUS GeForce2 MX for sale in the For Sale forum. Make me an offer if you are interested.

Gents,
Unfortunately, there is no AGP slot in this machine -- strictly PCI. cabbie [Edited by cabbie on 03-16-2001 at 05:41 PM] |
