hmmm, benchmark with 3d Mark 2000= 5226; benchmark with 3D Mark 2001; 2206-- is the difference to be expected?

Thier site is getting hammered.
Due to the differnce, your answer is yes.
Mad Onion decided to change the defualt to 1024*768*32 instead of 1024*768*16. This should have about a 1000 point change. Also 3D Mark is suppose to look to the future, so they sress your computer to the max. My current computer can't even run 2001. Everybody is going to see a differnec in the scores, but it is testing Direct X 8, so these features aren't even implemeted in most games.

Just installed it, my systems are a mess since I was tearing them apart for a mobo review, but here's what I have seen so far:

Abit KT7A-RAID
1Ghz (266fsb) Tbird
128MB PC166 CL2
Voodoo5 5500
WD 7200/ATA100 30GB
3DMK2K1= 2022

Abit KT7-RAID
Duron 600
128MB PC133 CL2
GF2 GTS 32MB
WD 7200/ATA100 20.5GB
3DMK2K1= 2233

Once I get all the good parts back in once case, I'll rerun the tests. I just had to see what it could do. The benchmark is impressive nonetheless. The Lobby scene is damn sweet.

Hey, On an 8MB nVidia ZX, I can't run 2001, and in 2000 the tops I could get is 785. Sad, I know.

Planning on getting this tonight after school. I currently got a K6-3+ 450 @600 and my 64mb radeon to keep happy till I purchase my tbird this summer. I got direct x 8 but older radeon drivers. Everytime I try to uinstall the special dx 8 drivers I get errors...I'm guessing I installed them wrong, and something is messed up....so I'm gonna try again when I reformat, but I will post results here.

Put my main system back together, new score to report:

KT7A-RAID
1.1Ghz Tbird
GF2 GTS 32MB
3DMarks: 3089

It seems the 7.17 drivers are a bit better, so I will reinstall them for some more testing. 38MB is painful but worth it...

Wowsers...that is one hefty benchmark. On a K6-3+ 450@600 with 128mb ram and a Radeon 64mb I only score 743. But then again, I'm not using the direct x 8 drivers from ATI and I have disabled AGP texture acceleration in DX 8, because otherwise it freezes up. I bet with that worked out and some newer better drivers..I may be able to score above a thousand.

Is there any info on what the score means in real world terms? For instance, an increase of 500 in the 3d mark score translates to how many FPS on QIII or UT, etc.

A little more in 3dMark 2001. I like the benchmark but quite frankly thought the demo was a little better in 2000 even if the graphis weren't as good. I like the nature scene, and the lobby scene is impressive too , but c'mon one guy vs. like 6 and he manages to kill them all without getting hurt....now tell whether that's realistic or not?

From a graphics standpoint though it's plain and simply spectacular.

If you had not already got it. The shooting scene is from the Matrix Lobby scene. Great movie

I remember when my 8Mb ATI All-in-Wonder + dually 12Mb Voodoo2's really hauled.... well, just ran it on my other system and CHOKE!

QDI Brilliant 9 motherboard
Celeron 700Mhz
224Mb PC100 SDRAM
ATI All-in-Wonder 8Mb Rage Pro Turbo + dual 12Mb Voodoo2's
Quantum 13.6Gb 7200RPM on a Promise Ultra 66
3DMK2K1= 493

Going to 800 x 600 x 16

3DMK2K1= 498

Dropping more to 640 x 480 x 16

Even better if I don't run the Voodoo's.... 252 at 1024 x 768 x 32 !!!

3DMK2K1= 501 !!!! YEAAAAA!!!

Note: This was only in 16 bit color as the Voodoo's won't support true 32 bit.
