I was just wondering if you use or don't use a no-cd patch to play your games. I just started using them, for I find it a pain in you know what to have to put in a cd to play a game that you have paid for. I just don't understand why people who are buying legit copies have to suffer for the idiots that don't.

I use them all the time with legal games....I think it was FarCry in which the manufacture suggested using the no-cd patch to fix a bug some users where having.

I do sometimes. If I get a new game and I know I'm going to be playing it a lot, I don't bother since I have the CD near by all the time. But If it's an older game, or one that I don't play all the time, I will install a No-CD patch so that I don't have to go CD hunting when I decide I want to play it.

I would like to ask everyone a favor and keep this thread legit by not discussing copying cd's. There's nothing wrong (in my opinion) in making a no-patch CD as long as you own the original game. I don't want to have this thread locked because of discussion of that nature, I'm more interested in if your using the CD to play or a no-patch CD and the reasoning behind it.

I only use them when I am sick of reaching for the CDs. I have over 700+ PC games (yes, I said 700) and if I play the game for a short while, I don't want to keep looking through my 4 huge CD wallets to find it - LOL.
However, I noticed some official game patches that come out, now include a no-cd patch when they release it (ex: Unreal Tournament 99, 03 and 04). |

I think it is legal for games you own. On gamecopyworld.com they have a big warnign about only takign those files for games you own, otherwise it is illegal, but I don't know for sure.

I do this with older games that don't have encryption so it works fine for newer ones you might have to use a program called Alcohol 120% not sure though as i don't have any newer games because my current rig can't handle them to well. |

I'm not sure about the legality of no-CD patches. I've heard arguements both ways.
As a matter of convienience and practicality, I choose to use them. With most games, everything is installed onto the HDD and all the CD is needed for is to start up the game.

I agree with force, don't know if it's legal or not, from the stand point of the developers, I'm sure they hate them. But if it's for a game I bought and it means I can leave my disc in the case after installing, I'm all for it. Problem is they're getting harder and harder to find. Also emulating is getting to be more of a pain.

What do you mean that emulating is getting to be more of a pain?

I think Redfallon was referring to virtual CD ISOs. I've heard of a few games that would not work with alcohol 120%.

I use no cd patches for game cd's that I have lost or when I have given a shot to a friend.
I get all my no cd patches at www.megagames.com in the trainers section and I am yet to fail finding one for my games |

I prefer to use the no-CD patch because I'm lazy... we are required (being in the military) to keep things clean and tidy, and I can never remember where I've hidden the CDs from sight LOL

That's funny...is it really being tidy if you are just hiding them...isn't that the same as kicking dust under the rug?
