No you will not be able to. Absolutely not. You need a entirely new system and you must buy it from me. It will cost you $8000.00 so just send me your credit card number now.
Just kidding. He he. Actually my gaming rig is exactly what you have listed and when I built it I had those games in mind. Back then (about a year ago) all of the magazines and online articles said it should handle D3 and HL2 no problem, thats why I went with those parts. Now? I am not so sure. Well I am not so sure about running them at ALL max settings. As for running the game it should handle that no problem. I guess time will tell. -Spartan |

If you can't there's no hope for the rest of us.

When/if the settings get to be too much for the system to handle, it will take a performance hit. What I would do is to start out with the base settings, then bump things up as you go, and if they get too high, and your performance starts to suffer, just drop it down a bit.

bigandy got most of it.
What will happen is not so much a general lag as the frame rate taking a dive in certain sections. So, if the scene with the monsters and 3 different armies slows to crawl you may have to adjust the settings ( some levels in FarCry are notorious ). What you should aim at, if you have enough power, is a steady 60 fps. More is great but not less. For those games that will bring a system to it's knees you want nothing less that 30, the always smooth rate, but you're aiming for 40 on average. The FPS charts that sites like FiringSquad post can answer the settings questions for you and spare you considerable aggravation. |

I think that system should have no problem running those games. Far Cry is already out and has proven that lesser systems than yours (including mine for some reason
) can run it at max settings. Half Life 2, although time will tell, should run fine on a 9800 Pro. The only one I'm not sure of is Doom III which uses OpenGL. I think it will run fine on high settings but I have heard some conflicting arguments.

According to an article in this months PC Gamer...."So long as you have at least a GeForce4 MX card (and remember, a GeForce4 MX is LESS powerful than a GeForce3), you should be able to play Doom 3 with many of it's bells and whistles at a decent clip."

Yeah, I'm with you Hi Ho. That's tough to believe. Especially since we have heard so much about how demanding DOOM 3 is going to be, and that to play with some of the higher settings, you pretty much need a 9800 Pro. I sure as heck wouldn't want to try to play it on a system with that video card in it.
And thanks for clarifying Pam. |

Yeah, if the game is anything like the videos show there is no way a GeForce4 MX will run it that way. I wouldn't be surprised if that card can't even run it on low settings.
