Exclamation New System - Gaming Trouble

About 2 weeks ago I put together my first computer and just yesterday loaded FarCry. Everything looks beautiful, however if I'm encountering several enemies, it starts getting jumpy and slows up a lot. I'm not sure what's going on, I reinstalled the latest nVidia driver, made sure DirectX 9.0b was installed and have my video card over clocked, but it's still giving me problems. See specs below.

2.8E P4 (800FSB, 1MB Cache, HT)
Intel 865PERL MB
ASUS nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Video Card (256MB , 425MHZ, OCed to 450MHz)
512MB PNY RAM
60GB Maxtor HD
Enermax Case w/ 400W PS
ASUS 8x DVD ROM
SONY 52x32x52 CDRW

Have you tried running your video card at it's normal speed?

It could also be audio card that can slow down everything else if its either not configured correctly or not updated.

The culprit may also be the video card itself. The Nvidia FX series cards don't handle DirectX 9 games well at all. Your system looks good however, if you are using the power supply that came in that case make sure it's an Enermax. Sadly, most Enermax cases come with PowerUp power supplies that are not very good. If your case has a PowerUp PSU I suggest replacing it with a good quality one such as an Enlight 360w because you risk ruining your entire system by using a low quality power supply.

Have you applied the 1.1 patch to the game ?

Has anyone seriously ran FarCry smooth with only 512MB RAM? All the people that can run this game smooth all have at least 1GB of RAM and that's pc3200. What speed is your PNY RAM? I have a feeling it's pc2700. FarCry is a super high demanding game to play smooth. Yeah I agree with Hi Ho, that videocard isn't a top of the line card either, a 9800 Pro 128MB would probably work better.

I ran the demo all the way through with the computer in my signature on the highest settings with no problem. I only have 256mb of RAM installed right now.

Wow that's news to me. Have you tried the full retail game though? There are more parts in the game that stress your PC more than the demo version. I know people that ran the demo version and couldn't run the real retail version.

It would probably have trouble running the full game. It's a mystery to me why this thing can run it on high settings in the first place. No one seems to know why.

I have tried not over clocking my video card (that's the way I was playing it in the first place), patch 1.1 and the ForceWare readme didn't have my card listed on the cards it was written for. It may be that I don't have enough RAM (the PNY is 2700), I was a little worried about that. Oh well. It's main purpose is not gaming anyway. Just needs to get me through college and let me play some decent games along the way.
