Half Life 2 for sure....I don't even know if I will get Doom 3, I most likely will, but I might wait for the demo.

Yeah, I'm with Half-Life 2 there too. I'm a Counter-Strike player and like Mike said there are just soooooo many mods for it with some that are good enough to be their own game like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat. I will probably get Doom 3 but not right when it comes out like I will with Half-Life 2.

Has there been anything on whether or not Doom 3 will get mod software? That might be interesting....
But I doubt they'd do that

. Plus, I too am a Counterstrike player.kram

Doom 3... I had such a fun time with Doom 2(my first actual game since I never had any consoles as a kid.) and I probably can't run either of them very well, so I might as well go for a game that will make me remember the good ol' days
![]() I guess that was also the time of my dad's "Big Band" music phase... that chips ahoy song always makes me think of Doom

Half Life 2 - but maybe not right away - my new video card is tied up in a bet with my boss re the Red Sox. If they win the world series I buy the card - else he does - stakes ATI Radeon 9600XT.
My current Video card is a Geforce 3 Ti200 and I do not know if I want to spoil the game with such an old card....

Doom 3 no-brainer...
For those of us who grew up on Doom 1 and Doom 2, I think we all feel this way. Personally, the Doom games are still the scariest and most mood-setting games I have ever played even after more than a decade. While there have been great games to come out since Doom, nothing has been so platform changing than them (in my opinion.) And what a lot of us don't realize is that about 2/3 of all other FPS's (some of them very good) are all based on ID's most current engine (Doom, Quake, Quake2, Quake3.)

What do I want more? Right now it is Doom3 b/c it is actually going to come out soon! I've been waiting awhile for it. When Doom3 is over then I'll move on to HL2. It's like asking what kind of ice cream you like better.... I like 'em all and will be happy just to eat 'em up.

Well, if you consider using id's engines as a "mod" to the game (this definition may be a little off, but not far) then I would venture to say that id's games are more heavily "modded" than Half Life or Half Life 2 (after it comes out.)
While "total conversion" may be closer to what other developers actually do to id's engines, they are ALWAYS the industry standard setters. And while I love Half Life and am also looking forward to HL2, I just had to say Doom for these reasons (but hey, I would enjoy a surprise.) |

Like Dragon said, HL2 has to actually come out. Even though Doom was one of the first games i played, I'd still prefer to play HL2.

It dosen't matter. Doom 3 now, Half-Life 2 later. Now if they were both available now then I would have to decide.

These are the recommended system specs for Doom : http://warp2search.net/modules.php?n...icle&sid=18923
Are they serious about the video cards ? 9800/5600 ?

It almost seems like now more peoplle would choose HL2 simply because it is not out yet, and there is more to hope for in that game, Doom 3 has a release date coming up fast, so the anticipation is letting up, even though it is growing, if that makes any sense...probably not.
It's like the development anticipation has let up in lieu of the actual 'game is coming out anticipation'... HL2 still has slightly more anticipation because there is more mystery with it.... Ok I officially have no clue what I am talking about. Does anyone understand what I just wrote? **edit to pam: Aren't the recommended stats usually the ones that denote playing the game with all the eye candy and such on? I am glad I bought the 9800XT eitherway! Last edited by icallmedan; 07-19-2004 at 10:53 PM. |

Doom 3. Oh yeah, it takes me back to the good ol' days. BTW I saw on EB Games the other day, apparently Id Software re-released the original Doom series and it runs on Windows XP. Includes Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom. Only $15.

Half life 2, I just want to see the continuation of the first one. I hope my specs are ok:
1.8GHz Celeron 256MB RAM TI4200 128MB AGP 8X What do you think? By the way, I'm used to minimal settings on pretty much all games, so would it run? |
