Sure is. In the old days when gaming, especially anything of an FPS nature, was new, software developers had to entice people to shell out money for games. Id used to release the first couple levels of a new game so that people would be willing to buy the shareware version on the internet. The original Doom, as the current Doom, never had a release date. It was uploaded to the net whenever Romero and Carmack had declared it complete. And since John Carmack wrote the entire engine on his own, it took time to get the game to play how he wanted it. He never wanted to be attached to a deadline, prefering to code at his own pace, hence the game went through many looks before release.

That is funny!

I also think its funny how ID released the alphas legally for 'historical purposes'. I was thinking about downloading them, but then I realized, I don't really want to! LOL!
