ATi Withdraws Cat 4.7 From Futuremark

Quote:
So ATi?s Senior Product Manager, Terry ?I Make Drivers? Makedon, made a statement to Driver Heaven about ATi?s decision to remove Catalyst 4.7 drivers from the Official Futuremark driver list for 3Dmark03. This was at ATi?s request, not Futuremark. Most of you guys don?t need to be reminded why we don?t use 3DM03 for reviews, how we feel about Futuremark and the whole ?fixing a benchmark? thing anyway (double-entendre not intended).

?In CATALYST 4.7 there is a slight rendering bug found on game test 3 of 3DMark03. This has been documented in an InfoBase article found here. Due to the high standards we place on ourselves in regards to our driver quality we have decided to ask our users not to use CATALYST 4.7 with 3DMark03. In fact we request that Futuremark disqualify this driver set from the official approved driver list. CATALYST 4.8 will have the rendering bug fixed. This rendering bug does not impact 3DMark scores with CATALYST 4.7, but we prefer our users use a driver without the corruption for the best possible RADEON experience."

When will the 4.8 be released? I have heard about a lot of issues with 4.7. I installed the 4.7 on the radion 9800xt because I have heard that it fixes problems with some issues with that card but I have held back installing it on my 9600xt cards

heh, I'm still running 4.1. I haven't had any problems with it, and it seems like every release since then has had some funny quirk.

Those ATI bugs are the reason I switched to Omega's modded ATI drivers last year. Had all kinds of problems with the 3.5's and the Omega drivers cured it. Been upgrading whenever he releases a new one. Put em on all 3 machines with ATI vid cards that I run. I'm using his 4.7 based drivers right now and have experience no difficulties.

I suspect the 4.8's will be out the second week of August, to see if there are any bugs with Doom 3. That is just my guess.

I keep on telling myself to download the Omega Drivers, but then I try and it goes like 2 kb/s for some reason, and I quit...what download site do you get them from Panama?

**Edit

And Wow...he updated his site...it looks so cool and modern. LOL!

I used to use Driver Heaven as a mirror site, but they aren't listed any longer. This last time I used the NCO mirror. Went directly to the download without going thru their website, which is nice. Takes just about a minute on 3K broadband. Dialup would be torture!

The sad thing is I am on 3 meg broadband...but all these mirrors seem so slow...I'll try the NCO one, maybe I'll have better luck.

I'm still using 4.4 -playing my way through, repeatedly, Thief : Deadly Shadows.
The rage 3D members haven't been too happy with the last 2 catalyst releases but the 4.8 betas have everyone talking.

Nope, this one looks like a keeper for the collection.
Amazon has knocked the price down to $35 and one of their featured resellers, with a high rating, has it for $25.

Hmmm, sounds like a deal. I'll look into it, thanks for the heads-up. If I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the demo, even $50 really isn't that much to pay for such gaming goodness. However, I can't help grimacing when I crack open my wallet for anything these days.

If you go into the device manager, then to display adapters, then right click>properties on the display adapter then go to the driver tab, there should be a date there. The 4.7's which are on my system now are dated 6/14/2004 even though they came out in july...so if you subtract .1 for every month before June that your drivers were released you should find your driver number! I'm sure there is an easier way, but I don't know it. Also when subtracting, if you have really old drivers don't forget Ati came out with 3.10 drivers...lol!

Mine are the 4.7s and they are 6.14.10.6458. Isn't there a date in the device manager too?

If they went in sequential order you have the Catalyst 3.3s...or if i mis counted they are the 3.4s, somewhere in there.

You are most likely running the Catalyst 4.5's then.

nuke, right click desktop, properties. click on the settings tab, and on the ati tab. look around and youll find the version(sorry i cant give u exact instructions, im on an nvidia right now). also, if your looking for a faster way to downoad from slow servers, usually a multithread downloader will help because a lotta servers restrict bandwidth for one connection. try net transport.

Oh yeah....its under the options tab....right click on desktop>properties>settings>advanced>options and it is listed right there. What version do you have. I want to see if I was close on the guessing.

Hi Nuke,
You've got the catalyst 4.5 version.
The current one is the 4.7 and, just your luck, it greatly improves the shadows in Morrowind and it ups the fps.

edit : the simplest way to check the version is on the ATI driver page.
Just click on 'Previous versions' on the bottom of the page and match the 6. etc. to the one you've currently got.
