Had all my information filled out on Bestbuy.com and then cancelled the order. I'm a huge gamer and am usually there on first day to get the games I enjoy. But this time I thought about the price and decided it's not worth that much money. It was about $54.99 w/ free shipping but tax finalized it to around $58. Maybe I'm starting to realize that waiting a little while after it comes out to see the price drop will be worthwhile.
But at the same time, games are getting so frikkin expensive these days. Didn't they used to cost around $39 a few yrs back? |

A lot still only cost $39, heck you can pick Far Cry up for $30, it pays to wait a month...the price will most likely drop to $45 or so. That extra $5 is probably going to the figurine you get with purchase.

In the past 5 years or so, the video game market's pricing has been standardized, probably mostly due to the fact that so many companies are getting in on it. Most games come out at $50, and fall from there depending on demand.
I remember 10 or so years ago, some games (both PC and console) not ony debuted at $80 and upwards, but stayed there indefinitely. So in a way, this standardization is a good thing. But there's a bad side to it too, in that some game companies which would otherwise make an OK game at $20-30 simply can't compete financially and therefore aren't able to put out a good game. In terms of your choice, I would say if you like games and will enjoy DOOM3, just get it when it comes out and don't worry yourself with the issue. My copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES certainly is NOT worth $80 anymore, but I don't mind.

I wait for prices to drop. For awhile there I was waiting until they dropped to $20... but some games took over two yrs or so, like MOH, which I jus bought a bundle pack of it with expansions for $30 I think. Not too bad. But I'm impatient (and bored) so I'm buying $30 games now :-)

They marked doom way off because it is so popular.
Snes and 64 did suck for the price of games. |

Yeah I only bought about about 4 Nintendo 64 games cause they were so expensive, then I bought an xbox, and games were $50, then they started to have the "Platinum Hits" for $20, and I bougt some more games...now since i use the computer games aren't as bad because you can usually get a good one for $30.

Wise decision, Parker. As you, I am gonna wait till it drops to $25 CAD. Unless it's an RPG, I don't pay more than 30 bucks for a game.

I'll wait for the demo, than if it is really good, that may influence my decision to buy the game at full price...but I sure as heck won't have it right off the shelf for $55 because it looks cool...even if I do get a pewter figurine! LOL!

Pewter figurine... hmm... you made me remind that I actually DID pay more than $50 USD for a game. It was the Collector's Edition of Command & Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun. But of course, I don't regret it as that game was worth it. I got a pewter figurine of a NOD soldier with it along with other goodies.

Yeah I'm waiting to try the Doom3 demo to decide if i'm going to buy. However, for HalfLife2 without a doubt I'm paying full price the first day it comes out or pre order.

Not sure. I think you can get the CD but you need to send them a form and a picture of the code on your copon or something like that. Im just gonna DL it from steam, easier and faster. They have very good servers, updates DL at 400kb/s+ and they will probly put some extra power for those HL2 DL's.
