Doom 3 leaked to the internet

Tom's is reporting that it has leaked to the internet. It is supposedly showing up on Bit torrent and P2P with an estimated 50,000 DL's so far.

A lot of those people probably just want to "Try it, and be First". I think most of them will buy the game if they like it, or uninstall it if they don't. It is sad that it is already being pirated.

Yes, its on bittorrent and many thousands of people are sharing/downloading it.

My friend tried to download it and its only 4-6k speed. Later it might get faster.

Its not that the Doom III "leaked" to the net. With bittorrent's system its unavoidable for any software to appear on the net.
Also because bittorrent is so differnt from Kazaa or other file sharing programs is that its much harder to track who's downloading, and since its direclty p2p and since there is no centralized server to keep bittorrent running I dont think its possible to stop this.

Um, NO ! Bittorrent is about the unsafest p2p client out there for copyrighted stuff. ANYONE who connects to the tracker can get a full list of EVERY participating ip address. With more traditional p2p like Kazaa, only the uploader (sharer) is at risk, with Bittorrent EVERYONE is at risk. Tell your "friend" he might be better of trying something else...

The downloads are going pretty fast. I've seen 60-100kbps on the downloads. I'm hearing that the CD keys provided with the game will not work online, however.

I feel sorry for those nerds who waited outside stores at 12:01am to buy the game though

Uhhh, all of you that are planning on downloading it from a P2P program should be ashamed of yourselves. After the very same kind of selfish behavior delayed it for so long in the first place! Buy the damn game!

Honestly, I think $55 it's too much and it will probably get like $40-$45 in a couple of months. I am going to buy it, I must confess, I used to download a lot of stuff for free but I don't anymore. Beign a programmer myself, I should be ashamed of myself..

Oh, well...

That's a good thought, tigstah. I've heard that this game has to work or id will go bye-bye. I'm not going to contribute to putting id out of business. Whether that's true or not, they make some of the best games ever and I'm buying my copy once I get my new GPU.

True while most people who download it wont buy it, A LOT will. Why buy a game only to find out it doesnt run that well, or at all, on your pc, or you dont even like it? Try to return it... nope sorry your SOL, open software crap. And most people are gonna drop $60 to see if they like it.

A lot of that could have been stopped if they released a demo of Doom3 on the 3rd too....then people could decide if they liked it or not.

When the demo is released, would any of you lucky souls with high-speed internet care to burn the .exe to a CD and send it to me via snail mail? I'll float ya a few bucks through PayPal to cover shipping+materials. Of course, this is assuming it isn't the featured software on a future MaximumPC CD.

I'm sure it will be featured material as soon as it's available.

I think that it's decidedly ordinary to so openly say "$60 is too much", when it's people d/ling and hacking it that put it at that price. As Dragon prolly said, it's only people below age 25 who do it, as I feel people older than that have learnt from life's experiences that you have to make sacrifices to get what you want, it's not all about being selfish

Is it true you guys get paid to donate blood??

also got to keep in mind probably the majority of those people downloading doom3 could also be younger people with out a source of income and wouldnt be able to buy the game anyway, so ID isnt losing much money.....

Id buy the game right now, actually i would ordered it yesterday, but im keeping my eye open for system specs NEEDED to run doom 3 so to have excellent performance and quality.....hopefully ID will release the "recommended" system specs soon....

to the people saying the $54 game costs too much, what price would you say is reasonable? $40?

Say you bought Doom 3 on a friday evening, at $40.....Monday you went to Burger king for lunch and spent approx $5, Tuesday for lunch you went to Taco Bell and spent $3, Wed evening you spent $5-$10 for beer because work sucked that day......Now you just wasted $13-$20 on food and beverage that you didnt need to. (unless you dont believe in buying groceries) So that week you spent around $60 anyway....IF you think Doom 3 costs so much, dont waste your money on crap, buying fast food only last for what, an hour or so, then you're hungry again, buying doom 3, would last for years.

I buy all my games, but I won't ever claim to not download anything P2P. Are all you people posting here really that "clean" as to judge others? SOrry not trying to start an argument, just allot of stereotyping going on as to age and type of person. I buy groceries, pack my lunch for work, take my own snacks and 60 is complete BS for a game whether I completely enjoy it or not. I could not get gas in my car because that lasts only 5-6 days but Doom3 will last for years....and $60 bucks is still too much. Please don't take offense to this was just reading through and suprised me how many people sound holier than thou when it comes to downloading anything.
PS,
I am going straight to hell, when I was in college eating rice and potatoes and raman I took money for giving blood and plasma...among other fluids.
