To Low Or Just Right
I just built my first system everthing turned out great. I decided to run 3dmark 2001se. I ran it a couple of times and i kept getting around 13000 to 13500. I then overclocked my videocard to get my score up to 14000. Is this about right for my system. or to low.
Specs amd athlon xp 3200 512mb pc3200ram Radeon 9600xt ( im using catalyist 4.4 drivers) |

thats a really good score for a 9600XT, most of them stock usually get 12000 to 12500 out of the box. my 5700U got about 15k out of the box and my best OCed score was around 16k, give or take a few points.

So 13000 is nothing to worry about. waht are some performance tweaks besides overclocking that i can do to improve the performance of my video card and the rest of my system

one of the main contributing factors to 3dmark01 is the speed of your FSB. 3dmark01 will show huge gains under high FSB conditions. one thing you can do is disable some of the background services in windows that hog all of your resources. another good way is to up the FSB of your CPU, assuming that your motherboard and memory are capable of high FSB. 3dmark01 has nothing to do with how your system will perform in games..its just a synthetic benchmark. dont let the scores get to you. as long as your system is playing the games youre buying, that should be good enough.

Ok, this doesnt seem right-
I have a 9600 non pro and I ran 3dMark 2001se the other day. I got a 6315. Is this right? it seems a bit low.... ~sd BTW I am using the Catalyst 4.3's Note: the catalyst 4.7's just came out for Win98se. should I upgrade? will it improve performance? |

aa is turned to 'application preference'. I just turned vsynch to 'always off'. I'll try running the test again and see what happens.
What about upgrading the drivers? thanks, ~sd EDIT: There is no "off" setting for aa. should I turn it to 2x or keep it at application preference? EDIT2: I did not download the patch for 2001se. I am going to do that now and see if it makes a difference. Last edited by swampdonkey; 08-08-2004 at 02:34 PM. |
