Another doom 3 performance tweak

Take a look here: http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14874

[edit]: Note that while this will boost performance on ATi cards, it will actually slow down performance on nVidia cards.

Wow...I'm now running 1024x768 ultra quality with 2x AA and more than playable framerates.

When you say "another" performance tweak, could you point me towards others that may help out?

Also, what program is the best to use to measure framerates?

Either one. The file is provided for convenience, but if you want to, you could just make the changes yourself.

With this, the 4.9s, and the imagecache tweak, I'm now running on high @1024x768 with 4x AA, but I might turn it down to 2x cause I notice a very little difference and I'm getting about 25fps, which is a little low.

The amount of memory used by Doom3 is a bit wierd to say the least. Supposedly, you need a 512 mb graphics card to run on ultra detail, as over 512 mb can be used in texture memory at one time (since it's uncompressed.) For all practical purposes though, I think relatively fast system memory is sufficient when your video card can't handle everything. My video card is [only =P] 256 mb, but it runs very fast and smooth. When I'm running the game, task manager says I'm using 1.19 gb of memory, which means I'm using 190 mb of my hard disk pagefile. Usually this spells doom for my machine (pun intended) so Kudos to id at making a very special game in terms of performance.
