What is better...Xbox or PS2?

The last console I bought was a Nintendo. I really have no experience with the new stuff out there but I want one. Which is considered better? Is there a 3rd choice out there?

Hmmmm, Intel or AMD? It is tough to answer that question. It's all about games! What games do you like to play? If you like Racing, go for Playstation 2 for Gran Turismo 4, coming out in November. XBox has a better online community, but you have to paye for it. XBox has Halo and Halo 2. Playstation 2 has Final Fantasy and Gran Theft Auto San Andreas (though XBox will get it eventually). It' all a matter of waht games you want to play. Personally, I have both. If I had to choose one, I would not be able to decide.

If you want the one with better graphics, then get an XBox. It supports bump-mapping. Plus, with the XBox, memory cards are optional. It comes with a 40gb HDD and you can mod it and put a bigger one in there and store all you games on it and never have to use CDs again.

It has to be XBox for the mods
I got mine modded for $160 bucks australian thats includes a 120 gig HD, the chip and bios softwere.Ive got about 20 of the latest games on there all thanks to the locale Blockbuster store, so when i think about it the mod payed for it self over 10 fold.

Can you store games on an Xbox that is stock? Or do you have to get it modded in order to do it? If so, how do you get it modded?

Thanks

Well I have a little place out in the country (middle of nowhere) and I get only 1 TV station out there. I thought I would get a console so I would have something to do once the sun goes down. I like RPG type games. Warcraft, Diablo, Baldurs, Neverwinter etc. I also liked this game my cousin had where you picked a character and chased each other around in various vehicles trying to blow each other up (one was a clown in a ice cream truck) but I can't remember the name of it.

I don't want to start a war a la amd vs. intel but was just wondering what you guys thought would fit me best.

twisted metal seems to be what ur talking about. Personally, id wait till Xbox 2 comes out in 2005-6 and play pc till then but if you wanna get a system i would reccomend Xbox for the non traditional RPGs like Kotor, Fable, etc and PS2 for the more traditional line of games: Final Fantasy etc... Since you seem to like a bit of action i'd reccomend Xbox and get Morrowind GOTY 20USD and Fable when it comes out.

The people that said stuff about preference were right....

xbox- has better graphics, and the hard drive (if you get it, dont get a memory card- its literally USELESS), very good games coming out soon

ps2- more variety of games (also plays ps1 games, most anyway)

both- have online play (ps2 is free, while xbox is payed monthly but is free for the first year), and very very good games

Game types-
for RPG's ps2 has mostly final fantasy games which i hear were decent. xbox has starwar's: knights of the old republic (i loved it and beat it), fable is coming out soon (i cant wait!), it also has morrowind which i never really got into.

for first person shooters ps2 has socom (2 versions) and i dont know much others. xbox has halo( my alltime fav) and halo 2 is coming out soon, and also rainbow six 3 ( 2 versions) i love it online

sorry i cant help much with ps2, i dont have it, but i do have xbox if you didnt notice ....

if you need any other help, PM me

Jason

EDIT: for various games- a lot are coming out for xbox- if you ever got into starcraft, starcraft ghost is coming out, but its not a real time stragegy game. if you liked the first 2 splinter cell games, the third one is coming out also, i think its also on ps2. if you into hilarious run and gun cursing squirrel games, check out Conker: Live and Uncut- its hilarious and the multiplayer is very entertaining as well as the campaign.... also, doom 3 and half life 2 will eventually be coming to xbox along with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2 will get it way before xbox does).. also, the regular GTA 3 and vice city are on both systems.

Well i looked online at the games available and I am leaning towards the X Box so far. I am going to the store to price them today (I'll look at the Gamecube also Sang.). I;m guessing they are all about $200.00. Does that sound about right?

Also, I have bought alot of things on Ebay over the years and have never been burned, however I have never bought eletronics. I noticed a bunch of games in the 12-20 dollar range (not new releases). Anyone buy games from Ebay?

actually spartan the systems are cheaper.... especially gamecube
xbox is anywhere from 119.99 (Used) to 129.99 (Refurbished) to149.99 (Just the new system). they also have combos with games and the dvd player for more..
ps2 is basically the same as xbox prices except the reurbished is around 139.99. they also have combos (but you dont need to buy the dvd remote for ps2 like you need to do for xbox
game cube is cheaper than the others. for used, its 79.99. for refurbished is 89.99, and just the system new is 99.99. this system is also very good. although no dvd player or online play (hmm there actually might be, but not many people play), it is a very good system with has the capatilities for amazing graphics-- you want good graphics for for resident evil 0 and resisent evil (the original). those 2 have amazing grpahics and are very scray games... dont go for RE 2 and 3 because they arent nearly as good as the others. Alos, if you like 0 and 1, wait for RE 4 to come out, its gonna be insane. also, if you liked the legend of zelda series, they have the Wind Waker out for game cube. its cell shaded (not like the others), but also very fun. they also have a new zelda game coming out, it will be like the original legend of zelda on n64, and personally i cant wait for it! sorry i dont know much about gamecube, if you want more info, PM me and i can have my friend tell you some more...

there ya go,

jason

I have never bought games on Ebay but I have buought used Xbox games at GameCrazy at cheap prices. About the PS2 DVD remote, you do need the remote to use the DVD player just like the Xbox.

You don't *need* the remote; the PS2 will play DVDs without it(you just have to use the control like you would the remote), but the XBOX won't play them at all.

I have a PS2, and play it ALOT. I'm going to be purchasing an XBOX very shortly though. XBOX is simply a more powerful machine, and the mod community is great. You cannot store games on an unmodded XBOX, to do so you will need a mod chip ( I personnaly reccomend the Xenium-ICE) and I suggest a hard drive. The stock hard drive is like 8 gig, which will hold 2 maybe 3 games, go with a 120-160 gig hard drive and you will have ample storage and shouldn't have any problems with the systems temperature.

Spartan,
Just so you know used games are a deal. they are rarely damage and can sometimes be dramatically less than a new one... And when you get tired on games, sell them, you wont get much but you can get some....

DTharp,
Where can you get one of these modded xbox's? i want one and how much are they? if you get a chance give me a site please...

thanks

Jason

i'd suggest getting an X-box (or whatever u want) off ebay, IIRC they are nicely cheap.. ebay does have protection if u get burned and dont get your goods/money.. most people play by the rules anyway, people who dont get banned and can't join again unless they move house..
if you are worried about ebay then try and find one locally and pick it up

to mod an xbox you need a mod chip. these can be bought on Xbox-Scene.com you can find more info on modding an xbox there. i think kevinrose.com also has a way to softmod your xbox without a mod chip

The only official info that I know about the PS3 is that Sony said it would release it in March 2006. The next-gen Microsoft and Nintendo consoles are supposed to be out in Fall of 2005. Other stuffthat is semi-official is that PS3 is not going to use Sonly Blue-Ray, but instead it will use Dual Layer DVD's. It will have new hardware texture compression/decompression. It will support progressive scan DVD and game playback by default. It will not have an HDD. Sony will just use BIG memory cards and "server-side storage". That's all I know. All this stuff came from PSM magazine. To Spartan, I would suggest getting a PS2 and just using your PC for any good XBOX games because they usually end up releasing for PC anyways.

Actually I think sony was saying 2006 to throw off microsoft and nintendo.

The PS3 will be unveiled before march 2005 (the fiscal year) at a premier event (didnt say which) and a likely release toward the end of the year, the same time as xbox 2. This is according to EGM October issue and is quoted by Ken Kutaragi, CEO of sony.

Neither the PS3 or Xbox 2 will include harddrives, but neither are set in stone in final specs. Although both companys have released emulation software to game developers.

But October was so long ago. I got this from a current issue of PSM. And it came straight from Ken Kuturagi. The thing is, they are going to unveil it before next april in Japan, and then at E3 in America, but it won't actually be released until March 06 in the US and December 05 in Japan.

There is a PS2 linux kit you know. And you don't have to open it up and mod it. I think it comes with a PS2 mouse, keyboard and hdd and the Linux software.
