I have the ATI AIW Radeon 32 MB DDR video card which came bundled with the ATI multimedia software package. One of the programs in the package is called Video CD. This is a separate program from the File Player which plays mpgs. I understand Video CD's are popular in Europe, but never really caught on here. On the TechTV website they talk about turning your VHS tapes into Video CD's. I have followed their suggestions and have no trouble creating mpgs, but I can't seem to get them to play on the Video CD Player. One potential problem I have noticed is that the avi2vcd software I am using creates version 2.0 Video CD's and the Video CD player in the ATI multimedia package plays version 1.0 Video CD's. Is this the problem? Also do I even need to use the avi2vcd software or can I use the capturing software that came with the card? Thank-you in advance.

Hello,
well, if the Player only plays VCD 1.0, then you can't play VCD 2.0 or SVCD on it. Do you have a DVD drive or DVD Player software ? If yes, then you can use that to play VCDs/SVCDs as well. And to create Video CDs you can use the software of your choice. As far as I know capturing software only captures to AVI, because if you want to capture directly to VCD you'll need a hardware MPEG encoder, otherwise it wouldn't be possible due to the time that is needed for encoding.
