doom 3 audio problems and gaming video problem, help me

Ok please help me fix this, heres the deal:

With my Audigy 2 zs, Doom 3 sounds have a skip like repeat. The sounds repeat for a bit, drives me nuts. Anyone esle have this problem? I tried Activisions support page suggestion, but it didn't do jack. Also have a problem with the video pausing every so many seconds/frames? This occurs in all my games, while the sound is only a problem in doom3.

Got an Amd athlon xp 2500, 1 gig pc3200 ram, 200 gig 7200rpm hd, pny verto feforce fx 5200 128 mb, audigy 2 zs, sony cdrw, sony dvdrw. win xp home.

Your graphics card isn't very strong. What settings are you running it on? I ran it on a Radeaon 9600xt on medium 1024*768, with no AA or AF and it ran fine. The 9600xt is a huge step up from the 9200 as well.

re

I have it set at low, 640 x 480. But shouldb't the card be good enough? atleast for games like ut2004 quake 3, max payne? But I get this skip/pause thing in all games.

AA? AF?

I used to have a 5200 and I found it to run games quite poorly, specifically DirectX9 based games. It "says" it can run DirectX9, but IMO the FX series were bad cards. Doom3 uses DirectX9. When does it pause? When you open a door and get in heavy fights, or just at random times? The rest of your system looks good but that card is really holding you back, IMO.

As far as the sound problem, check for the latest drivers. I have that sound card and Doom3 and I never notice any problems at all.

AA is anti-aliasing which makes the game have smoother edges, and better quality.
AF is Anisotropic Filtering Level which makes objects that are far away look better, instead of them getting blurry and ugly looking.

re

The skip/pause is constant no matter what I'm doing, kinda like every couple of seconds. As for my audigy, I've all the latest drivers and updates.

What's a good nvidia based card that will handle doom well and not break my bank?

I would really recommend looking at ATI but that is my personal opinion.

That page should answer all your questions on the cards.
