What did they know and when did they know it ?
Not only had ATI better honor those game vouchers promptly, if they've got any smarts they don't pull any stunts like this again.

Interesting article.
I wonder if ATi/nVidia are going to back any games in the future...

Quite the nice read. Thanks wolfie. For me, I'm not upgrading until X800/6800 prices come down. My 9200 is still running strong!

I think a new company needs to come out, make a kick ass gfx card, and blow both ATI and Nvidia out of the water so bad that everyone will buy their product, so ATI and Nvidia will go out of business, Then no one will have to worry about which card plays better with what game, cuz everyone will have the same hardware(who cares about monopoly!). It's starting to get real old.

I was being sarcastic. My point was that it doesn't matter how powerful your card is anymore as much as it used to, it depends if the software is specially written to run better on a certain brand of cards. I wasn't being serious, and I know that wouldn't happen
. What they are doing now is trying to eliminate the competition. Doom 3 was written to run better on Nvidia cards, HL2 is being written to run better on ATI cards. In the the end it's one company tryin to eliminate the competition of the other. People are gonna want the hardware that runs the software the best. How many times has that question been asked "Which card will play doom 3 faster". It's a bunch of crap what all of these companies are pullin, it needs to stop.

Loser 1769 brings up another good point. Each top of the line card will run the games fine. where they will lose is on benchmarks by a few fps. I have never really cared about fps as long as cards are close. I care more about price myself. Last edited by colecifer; 08-26-2004 at 09:57 PM. |

Well I'm playing Doom 3 on a FX5200 an I'm fine. The game is just as scary and looks good enough for me anyway. But there really needs to be a third company that is both really strong in open gl games and directx games. If that happens who knows how good cards can get and how much cheaper they can get.

I'll replace it with a shader 3.0 card when I can afford one. How odd, the mid-range card ATI discontinued is the best bargain deal for new games.

some people have to realize that alot of this is a marketing ploy. one man has an idea, and others profit from it as well. a hardware manufacturer comes out with some new equipment, then the game developers say you need it to play their game.
