How is doom 3 in multiplay?

I don't have doom 3 yet but I love the fps games where you play online against eachother. I heard theres only 5 or so people per map, is this true? Just curious as to what your opinion of the online play for doom 3 is any good?

I think the online play is horrid. In my opinion the game is just too dark to play online. I also think that the online maps are pooly laid out.

There are mods out there that allow 32 players. And there are already lots of maps out there made by users, you just need to look around.

i think Doom3 was basically a game that was made to show off the new engine and when they make other games based on the same engine in Doom3, multiplayer action will be much better.

The maps are too small and the spaces to confined. You spawn and you get a rocket in your face. I honestly think it would be much better if you could actually see who you're trying to shoot. Personally I'll spend my multiplayer time playing BF1942.

Last weekend a friend and I got into an online deathmatch just to test it out. We had a blast. The net code seemed pretty smooth. We both have dsl and traded off creating the server. The player who joined the server had pings of 40-60. As for the maps, at times we had a hard time finding each other. We're thinking that adding a third person might make it just right. Considering how smooth it played with 2 players, we think there's a good possibility that 3 dsl connected players would play just as well. I believe 4 is the default max players. And I will say that the respawned player's weapons are too wimpy (fist, pistol, and grenades), but that's nothing new. The default maps are really nothing to brag about. Buying the game solely for online play would be a mistake. But then again I haven't researched any other maps or mods.

Nope, there's no bots Doom 3.

Here's your game type choices according to the Doom 3 HTM Manual.......

Deathmatch
An every-marine-for-himself slugfest. If you’re the marine with the most kills when time runs out, you win.

Team Deathmatch
Pair-up and compete to be the team with the most kills before time runs out.

Last Man Standing
Each marine has a limited number of lives. If all others have fallen and you’re the last marine standing, you win.

Tournament
Two marines battle one-on-one while others watch and wait as spectators. When the battle’s over, the first spectator in line becomes the new opponent while the loser moves to the end of the spectator line. The victor remains in the combat arena until defeated by another marine.

Thumbs down

My opinion.... sucks

Enemy territory is still the best MP IMO.
