I'm planning to buy a new video card at newegg but I cant make a decision whether to take Radeon 9700pro 128mb or Radeon 9800SE 128mb 256bit. I've heard that most of 9800SE can be soft-modded into 9800pro but I would have to buy a new heatsink in order to keep the card stable. Both card are at same price (around 140$), so can anyone give me an advice? Thanks

If the Radeon 9700 Pro is affordable, take that.

On Sep. 21 ATI is going to announce it's new X700 cards.
The X700 pro and the X700XT. The prices are going to be $149 and $199. If I were you I'd wait for the benchmarks unless you absolutely have to have an ATI card right now.

That sounds about right but it certainly makes the X600 look bad.
If they drop all the prices for the 9800s the 256mb version of the pro might just be affordable on unkoman's budget. I'm betting there's a post with some X700 bench marks (unofficial) somewhere, I think I'll go looking |

This is a hardware tech jump that will require new motherboards as well as new graphics cards so we're talking about a ground up rebuild of your computer( there's new ram coming out as well). Read this for all the (going to be expensive) details : http://www.cooltechzone.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=0 It's true that alot of people will tell you that nothing uses it yet, and they're right for now. But, like AGP in it's time, it will enable performance for the future. Don't let it stop you from buying a new AGP card now if you need one though. |
