Just got this game. To me it was kind of hard to learn the game at first, tutorial was taking too long, everything was a little fuzzy on how to do anything. After about a hour of playing it i started to really get a grip on the game.

It is a very addictive game, although i only played about 2 hours in a row not 12 hehe. If i had the time i would and could easily play for 12 hours though.

This game really is unlike any other game i have ever played before. It has a extremly different playing style. In conclusion this game really is great, and worth checking out. The demo is at least worth checking out.

I was looking forward to this game ever since I saw the preview in PC GAMER. Now, I just have to wait till it drops in price to the payable 25 bucks.

I didn't really like the demo. Kinda slow and boring to me. I have heard really good things about it tho.

I played the demo from PCgamer, it was good but not great. Maybe if I have a army the size they have in the ad it would be better.

heh yeah, it is really slow at first, but things do pick up prety soon and it starts to become enjoyable by the min., atleast it does for me. So far, for me, it has been one of those games that just gets better and better as you advance.

It is one of those games you don't dare even to load up unless you have a fair amount of time to play it, otherwise your gona be late for class etc. and lose track of time. Plus it takes a lot of time to do anything, its not like say star wars: battlefront where you can load up, play a quick game and exit and be on your way.

Im on a game I started sunday and I only have 6 bases . Theres lots of strategy involved , its not like "the biggest army wins type of game" . My fav units are the wardogs , I grab 2 units of 92 and send them after the infantry units *poof* infantry gone ehhehehe . also once your base has a concrete wall surrounding it , you become virtually inpregnable, Ive repelled armies of well over 1000 with barely 400 guys . Like Blue said you cant just jump into a quick game of this so I dont see why Multiplayer is even worth it.

cheers

Yeah i havne't tried the multi-player side of this game yet. Not sure hot it will turn out, might be one of those things where you you only play online with close friends rather than people who might ditch the game withen 8 mins of start up.

- i also favor the wardogs, they are fun heh

I have the original series of Total War, Shogun, it's fun to play, but I just turn off the real-time war part and only play the strategy board part, not that real-time action isn't good, my old pc can't handle it. My new PC I just built should handle it, but I dont know if it's even compatible with XP.

Good choice, i think SW: battlefront is more fun anyways. Unless you have the time for Rome, takes a while heh.

Oh I'm so tired! I stayed up till 3am last night playing this game! Talk about addictive. And yes, I was very confused when learning how to play it, but once you get it down, then it's nonstop from there!!! Seriously, I think I have to figure out a way to limit myself, I was late to work yesterday because I had Carthage in seige. I just have to beat this game by Tuesday so I can spend my time on GTA: San Andreas.

STW runs fine on XP, I have all of the TW series, Shogun, Medival and Rome.

STW is still my favorite.

I had to set a clock beside the PC so I would know when to go to bed. I figure by the weekend Ill only have allies left and maybe a few pesky GAULS . I wonder if the city of Rome is hard to takeover....

Has anyone tried out the online play with this game? For the first time i just tried to connect for a online battle, but it says that i need a valid gamespy cd code or something like that.

Do i need a subscription to gamespy to play this game online? or am i missing something here?

Anyone able to help me out?

I haven't been able to stop playing this game. Once you defeat some of the other factions you can play as carthage, gauls, egypt, and others. The war elephants rock if your Carthage. The demo doesn't give this game justice. I thought Medeval total war was great, but this is 10 times better. They even use the Rome: Total War engine on the history channel for all the old battle scenes. Sucks that it put all those actors out of work though. I like having battles with each side at about 15,000 troops.

gamespy has a free basic username service. you should register for it. it allows you to play on so many other game's MPs.

K I'm kinda confused. Is there a "Total War" game and a "Rome: Total War" game? I thought it was the same one?

Medieval: Total War
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/...war/index.html
Released in 2002
Score: 8.7

Rome: Total War
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/...war/index.html
Released in 2004
Score: 9.1

One is the sequel to the other, in a sense. Both by Creative Assembly.

There is also Shogun: Total War. Shogun is the first one. I think it came out in 1999 or 2000.
