Halo 2 leaked (surprise, surprise)

Quote:
Halo 2 went gold just a few days ago has been leaked onto the net and is now making the rounds. Honestly, after the delay of Half-Life 2 because of the exact same thing, I am leaning more and more towards corporal punishment for software pirates. Well, maybe not that bad yet…but it is seriously pissing me off and I am sure if Halo 2 gets delayed like HL2, you will feel the same (if you don’t already). Thanks to Dan Murphy AKA Undergroundtech for the linkage.

Microsoft has said it is trying to track down the people behind a pirated copy of the forthcoming Halo 2 game. A version of the eagerly awaited Xbox game has appeared on net piracy sites and newsgroups, almost a month before making it into the shops.

if/when they catch these people, a few years in a siberian prison should be the punishment.

every single heavily anticipated game has been leaked that i know of. doom3, HL2, and now HALO2. i'm going to wait for the retail as getting a leak shows that you aren't a serious fan because you don't respect the hard work the people at bungie are going through to bring you an awsome game

You can't play the leaked version online and you can't play it on a normal xbox unless you illegally mod it. Plus you still need to find a copy online and burn it to a dvd.

This won't affect anything since the game is already gold.

Man, it bugs me when people do that stuff. I admit, I used to download music when Napster and Morpheus were big, but now even that bugs me. And this is just worse, cause it may affect all of us.

The gaming industry will not go out of business because of this. It takes too much knowledge and effort for the average person to successfully get and operate a leaked version of a game. Most casual gamers dont know much more than how to place the cd into the machine (be it pc or xbox) and push play. Anything beyond that completely dumbfounds them.

Is putting in a mod chip illegal? I thought it was only illegal to download and play the game, but the chip wasn't. Sorta how, DVD/CD burners and blank DVD/CD's are legal but burning movies/songs are illegal...

You can use a burner for good or bad, but what about a mod chip? What good does it do except allow you to do things you aren't supposed to. I'm leavin now but I'll try and find some doc's tonight to back me up.

I have heard that it is illegal to mod your Xbox. I know that you can get lots of different chips and Hard drives and stuff. But i heard that its illegal.

from what i know... xbox modding isnt illegal... unless you used it for downloading games that you dont have, then it gets illegal...

aside from that. a mod chip is about an extra $200 or so, so its ur choice to decide whether its illegal and is worth the money....

also, another thing i have heard is that you cant play live with a modded xbox... although there is supposedly a way to "soft mod" your box, but i think you need the original thompson processor...

tell me if im on or not...

Mod chips cost up to $60. Installing one of these chips would void your warranty and is potentially illegal under the DMCA.

What I want to know is how they get it out... surely they'd be keeping access to the finished version restricted, and watching very carefully.
I just don't understand

Money, my friend.... or it could just simply be someone who knows this is the big stuff and wanted to burn a copy. Why does anyone put a music CD on the 'net? The same reason ppl upload stolen games.

P.S.: You think someone would keep it restricted but the ppl who make all the disks are different from the ppl who make the game and even, sometimes, the ppl who publish it.

Modding your xbox or any other gaming system is not illegal. However how you use it after it is modded more than likely is. Sort of like in some states in isn't illegal to buy or sell radar detectors for cars, but it is illegal to use them. Thats just another device to assist in doing something illegal(but thousands use those every day) some of the same ones who believe downloading is terrible and wrong I would be willing to bet. Sorry wasn't attempting hijacking just got off on a tangent. Friend of mine lent me some movies I burnt a couple I really enjoyed he tried to give me a lecture about ethics and movie companies losing money. the he drove off in his insanely NOT legal road beast with his radar detector beeping away.

I am not condoning this type of stuff, I am as willing as anyone to pay for what i play, watch, and listen to. But some people pick their poison on whats right and wrong in their minds. Shutting up now.

Yeah, I've reported two IPs of sharers on Bearshare directly to m$, and have gotten a favorable response from them. Even though I hate M$, bungie is not M$ ethnically and does not deserve the same words I reserve for microsoft. I don't care if anyone pirates other games, just dont screw with bungie.
