Good pc, lousy 3dmark2005 scores... pls help

Hi!

This is my first post here, so please be gentle...

I'm owning a AMD 3500+ socket 939 on a Abit AV8 mobo with 2024mb Corsair Ram DDR400, a Radeon X800 (newest Catalyst driver) and WinXP Pro (clean installation).

My problem is that my machine only scores 3844p in 3dmark2005 (default settings, 1024*768).

Whis is this... can someone help me please??

that actually doesnt seem like a horrible score, especially on default settings without overclocking.

have u tried using the 8.07 catalyst beta driver? i hear thats supposed to help performance, especially on the x800 series and such.

good luck

Thanks for the help!

Where can I find these beta drivers?

I'm not actually worried about my machine's performance in games (Far Cry and Doom³ both run great), but the 'low' score in 3DM2K5 is unnerving me a bit...

That's not a bad 3DMark 2005 score...mine was around 990 so I'm not quite sure what's wrong with either my computer or the software, but I can say this was not an isolated case. Try 3D Mark 2003 - see what score you get.

it depends on which x800 he has. if he has the XT, he should be seeing around 5k scores. if he has Pro, i dont know much. aren't the Nvidia cards supposed to run lower bench scores? my 6800GT scored 4700 in 3Dmark03 and i have less RAM and a slower CPU.

I wouldn't call that a bad score, since many of the folks with overclocked GT6800's or whatever some of dem Nvidia cards are get about 5k, maybe ~5.5k? Out of curiosity, you mentioned it's a fresh install of XP... have you installed the motherboard drivers, and if so, whats AGP setting is it at?(Off, 2x, 4x, 8x) I would be suprised if ya could get the 3000+ without having the drivers installed, but figured it was worth a shot.

Edit: Huh... well... Dang I guess yours is a lil low

i don't think 3.8k is low for a X800Pro. they are limited by the 12 pipes. 6800GTs only score about 4.3k stock
