PS2 Disc Issues

I seem to have an issue that has arisen from thin air.. I bought San Andreas and stuck it in the PS2.. only to get a reading error. I also noticed the PS2 was having trouble reading it audibly. A low whirring noise.. I thought mayhaps it was just the CD, so I tried one of the other games... same issue.. and so I tried over 1/2 the games in my arsenal, but all of them has the same problem. I've never encountered anything like this. This is a PS2 I've owned for just over 2 years now and has never given me any problems to the least. I was curious to know if anyone else has suffered similar problems? And if there is any way to remedy it?

Would appreciate Any help.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Mech!

Have you been using the PS2 for DVDs? The laser's in the older PS2 didn't hold up very well when used frequently to watch movies. Even if you haven't used it as a dvd player, it wouldn't surprise me if it's just plain dead. Being so cheap, they won't last too long under heavy use. I have friends who go through about one PS2 every year. They just go buy a new one, since they know it's dead.

actually... you might be able to send it into Sony and get it fixed... it may cost a bit.. but its most likely gonna be cheaper than going out and buying a new system...

if you do buy a new system... go for the new thin one lol

finally... if you have a game store near you... like gamestop or electonic botique... they might be able to simply plug it in and help you figure out whats wrong... they are *sometimes* in a jolly mood...
