An Ode to Halo 2 - Twas the night before Halo

This was written by a local fellow gamer by the name of boter. Enjoy!

‘Twas the night before Halo, when all through the dorm,
Not a gamer was stirring, for fear they’d be worn.
The ‘boxes were placed on the shelves with great care;
It’s known that Master Chief would soon be there.

These gamers are nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Covenant flew through their heads.
My Xbox on my desk and my controller all wrapped
As I settled down for a well-needed nap.

When out in the streets there arose such a sound-
It sounded familiar, though I wasn’t sure how.
I threw on my clothes and gathered my cash
As I went to the door- was there like a flash.

The moon was like Threshold, alone in the sky,
Giving light to the spectacle thundering by.
I directed my gaze right up to the front
To an actual Warthog and eight tiny Grunts.

I then saw the driver, and with a glance so brief,
I knew it at once- here’s Master Chief!
More rapid than Ghosts, the SPARTAN now came,
He Needled each Grunt and he called them by name:

“Now Donut, now Stompy, now Caboose and Mopey!
On Noodle, on Wheezy, on Crazy and Dopey!
Why wake them up, and go to the mall?
We’ll give gamers the goods, for one and for all!”

They drove through the grounds, called up to the sky,
MC said, “It’s here,” Grunts, “We’re all gonna die!”
So now in the buildings, everyone knew-
Halo 2 was here; their dreams had come true.

I stood there, agape; I knew not what to do
As the SPARTAN stood there, but somehow he knew.
He climbed out of the Warthog, kicked a Grunt to the ground,
As the others all hid, not wanting to be found.

He was dressed in MJOLNIR, as one would expect
From a real super-soldier, no more, no less.
A chaingun of joy in the Warthog’s back seat
A towereing sight, seven foot, head to feet.

An imposing figure, his armor carbon scored
From the battles we fought on 343’s great ringworld.
The fights against Flood, he displayed proudly- and how!
The only reaction that I gave was, “Wow!”

And Captain Keyes’ pipe, stuck into a sheath
Right next to a pistol; this guy’s packin’ heat.
But that didn’t concern us; we knew what was coming,
We all had great stock and great faith in Bungie’s cunning.

He was strong, he was tall, all weakness was shunned.
I did nothing but stare as he mounted the gun.
With a glint in the visor of his helmeted head
And I knew that our hungers would quite soon be fed.

He said not a word, instead opening fire-
Discs of joy zinging out alongside a monk choir.
And then the last disc came out from the gun-
All gamers had theirs, their tickets to fun.

As they all sprang inside, I stayed but a second
To watch him climb in and wake up all his grunts.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
“Happy Halo to all, and to all a good night!”

Yuanji, if you take a look at the beginning of my post, I didn't write it. A fellow gamer did.

Way too much time in his hands. He must be taking only one class.

Yeah... once you get an idea like that in your head, it's pretty hard to get out.
I love writing things like that, it was pretty cool. I wish I could claim it
