I'm getting this after installing DX8, I had absolutely no problems before. I have a Voodoo 2 (12 Meg) hooked up to an ATI Rage 128 (32 Meg). I tried the latest drivers, moving the cards to different slots, etc.. It just screwed things up in different ways. After deleting and uninstalling all the crap I'm back to my origional problems again. Anyone else experience problems with DX8? Also it seems to be worse when online gaming. I get this trying to play Descent 2 and Descent 3 and seems to happen just as levels load, or the game ends. Once in a while it blows up during games too, which we all know sux to no end!

Nope, been running DX8 since it's release without any problems.

Ok this worked for me. Although I tried every trick I knew to try and eliminate these errors, I was still beat. I did find a couple of sites that had a some links to some utilities however, (after MANY hours of browsing) that helped fix things up tickity-boo. The first utility I used was a DX8 uninstaller, (Backup your registry and all the files this utility suggests, read the help files BEFORE using it, and follow the instructions to the letter!) ;
http://www.ebrink.com/dxun/Direct.htm I made sure all the references to DirectX were off of my system by using Dxtool.exe. I then installed DX6 on my system and upgraded once again to DX8a. I then tried this utility called GLSetup; http://www.glsetup.com/index.htm Funny thing is it installed the exact same drivers that I had tried in my fix attempts before. It worked like a charm for my system, (It is a beta product so be aware). I haven't had 1 problem now, (furiously looks fer some wood to tap). I thought this may help someone else with the same problems as no one seemed to be able to add anything constructive. ![]() |
