Did we ever find out if you pay every month or it's a one time thing?

I always assumed it'd be pay to play (monthly). Cashing in on the Everquest fan-base like so many have already tried to do.

Just my assumption though... Id give it a shot if it there isn't a monthly charge. I refuse to pay for games monthly. Id feel cheated if I didnt have the time to play for a month or two. I'm a die hard final fantasy fan, own 1-10 (dont own X-2), 1 and 2 for the gameboy, FF tactics and FF mystic quest. But I refused to pay for XI. (Also refuse to pay for X-2.. but that a different story).

Own WC II and Wc3. Own Starcraft. Wont pay monthly for World of Warcraft no matter how good it is.

I don't mind the idea of paying a monthly charge as long as it is reasonable. Maybe it will keep the laggers and childish players out.

That is a good point that all people should remember when the pay to play.

And I found this out:
The month-to-month subscription plan costs $14.99 per month, the three-month plan costs $13.99 per month, and the six-month plan costs $12.99 per month. World of Warcraft subscription fees can be paid by major credit card, PayPal, and pre-paid game cards, which will be available in stores where World of Warcraft is sold.

I can't think of a realistic pricing model for a persistent online game that wouldn't include regular charges; after all, the game you "buy" is just the client application; the "world" exists on Blizzard/Sony/whoever's servers, and someone has to pay for the server maintenance, patches, updates, customer service etc etc.

$15 or whatever a month is really the cheapest entertainment you'll find - IF playing an online game is what you like to do for entertainment, of course.

Personally WoW doesn't grab me, but I play EQ1 at a reasonably hardcore level and EQ2 for a more relaxing time. No other games have anywhere close to the depth of content of EQ1, which is hardly surprising considering it's been around for nearly 6 years and still has somewhere around 750,000 active, paying accounts.

I tried playing EQ but i couldn't get the hang of it. Plus i didn't have that much time to invest in learning how to play. World of warcraft looks like it might be a bit easier to play than EQ. Thats just my opinion tho.

Exactly...
Games which get updated little or at all (90% of games that is) don't require a monthly subscription because the company puts in little to no work on it after it's done and out the door.
If you hear "persistent, updated world" and think they may just say that because of little updates they do, its completely the opposite. Most (successful) MMORPGs are constantly being changed and added to on HUGE scales, with new areas, monsters, items, and even basic interface changes. The monthly fee you pay DOES go somewhere, but it's up to you whether or not the entertainment is worth it. It's not just gratuitous.

I just finished playing the open beta, gezz what an amazeing game this is, and when it comes to payeing monthly to play the game i think its well worth it because blizzard is constantly putting in new, different and more challengeing raids for large groups to go on, as an example because today was the last day they had end of beta world events going on in all the major citys, in one city they had Onyxia a massive black dragon attack the city all controlled by blizzard . I must say the future looks bright for this game and blizzard.

Alright, i've never really played any MMORPG's that have a monthly fee. I tried playing EQ but that didn't last for more than a month and when i bought it it came with a free month so i didn't have to pay anything. My question is what if you were unable to pay for a month? What happens to you accounts, characters and all of the stuff you have accumalated(sorry if spelled wrong)? Do they delete your account or does it stay there for a period of time before it gets deleted? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

I have been waiting for this game to come out for over a year now. I played it in beta and it really is a awesome game. HL2 is awesome too but the difference is you can only take HL2 so far. WoW is a game where you can play more than 10 hours and still be interested.

I was pulling off 15 hour days of playing this game. If you have a lot of time to play games, this is the game for you. Unlike how Everquest was, this game is easy to get into. EQ takes atleast a month or two before you could start to really enjoy it. WoW is great fun from the start. The graphics are also really nice. I love the cartoony look this game brings.

I don't mind paying a montly fee because 14 bucks or so a month isn't bad at all considering how much gameplay you get out of this. Sure beats just buying a new game everymonth for 50 dollars or so.

The open / closed beta are now closed and the release of this game is on the 23rd.

Personally i can not wait untill this game comes out, will be a lot of fun.
