Try updating your driver for your graphics card, when I updated my card it crashed until I downloaded the latest drivers for it, then it worked Shweet!! you could also download a patch for the game if that does not work... If all alse fails , try re-installing Doom3.
See how that goes! |

Actually I just found the driver download page. I had to go through this, was disheartening for a new card but is understandable when newer hardware conflicts with older software... give it a try http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

I tried the driver which was on the manufacturer's disc, also i tried 66.93 and 66.77.
Also I re-installed the game 6 times with all 3 drivers |

Do you have the latest version of DirectX installed?
Is your launch CD clean? (disk 1) Check your monitor and gfx settings (right click on desktop and click on properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced button. Things like monitor refresh rate settings, try slowing it down a little, run graphics tests via your gfx card software. see if any diagnostics tools can show any clues. Try locating the Doom3 Source executable instead of using the CD Play Game feature or using desktop shortcut. I don't know, just some ideas... hope it helps! |

no, I need to re-install DirectX, that's why i need to remove it first. When i begin to install DX9.0c, is says that it's already installed.

I use WinXP SP2
I uninstalled Dx9, then installed it again but the prodlem didn't go. I found one more strange thing: i've read in user's manual that the game requires 2.2Gb of hard disk space, but the game directory on my PC is only 1.45Gb. Is it OK? It seems to me that something is wrong with the game CD's. |

It could need the full 2.2GB during the install process but settles at a lesser amount after the install is complete. I am still thinking it is something to do with the gfx card and compatibilty (with drivers). I know you have tried working on this, but remember it crashed when you went to run the diagnostics... does that work now by the way?
I don't know if it will fix it but have you tried downloading the Doom3 patch? @ www.doom3.com Have you checked out this warning? Important Note: *Some 3D accelerator cards with the chipset listed here may not be compatible with the 3D accelerator features utilized by Doom 3. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX 9.0b compatibility |

My videocard with no doubt supports DX9.0b.
I did install the patch but ...... Maybe I should run the game with some extra settings in the shortcut's properties? |

This is getting difficult
one thing, maybe try taking the install CD's to a mates place and see if it will install and run. Then you can at least be sure the CD's are ok, if they aren't then I will go and put my head in the sand, and you can see about getting replacements! In the meantime I will keep thinking. I don't know that changing the shortcut cut target string. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. hrmmm. |

I suddenly decided to try emylate the game CD with the help of Daemon Tools. And it works!
Such a strange situation! I think now that the problem is in nothing else but my Combo drive. But what kind of problem is it?
