Mod an Xbox controller for PC use
for those of you that like the xbox controller, i did a nice worthwhile mod that some of you may find handy. all youll need is one xbox controller and one USB cable. first thing....cut the xbox connector off of the controller. then, youll want to cut some of the USB cable, using the end you plug into a USB port. youll need to strip the wires on both the controller and the USB cable until you see the different colored wires. the USB cable has black, white, red, green, and yellow....the xbox has black, white, red, green, and orange. you can cut off the orange and yellow wires since they wont be used. next, stripe the colored wires so that you have the bare copper wire exposed. now, youll want to match green to green, red to red, white to white, and black to black. next thing youll want to do is put a piece of heatshrink on the main USB/xbox controller cable, but dont melt it yet. now youre going to put smaller heatshrink on the smaller wires BEFORE you solder them together. now procede with soldering the matching wires together. after you solder the wires together youll need to heat up the smaller heatshrink on the colored wires so none of the bare wire touches one another. after that, youll heat up the larger piece to finish up. congrats youve modded an xbox controller for PC use. the best thing about this mod...is that most times Windows XP will recognize the controller right off the bat as an xbox controller....so you wont need a driver. if per chance windows doesnt recognize it, go here and get your driver. this controller is awesome for games. why spend $50 on a new PC controller when you can make your own for about $20?

I did this a while ago with a broken mouse, and an xbox extension cord so I didn't ruin a controller. I also soddered instead of heatshink. I have yet to get the analog to work.

the driver should solve your analog problems.

That's pretty cool, I didnt know you could do that. So you're saying you can take a regular pc mouse and change it into something the xbox would recognize?
Does anyone have a site for doing that?

I don't think that'd work, the Xbox wouldn't have driver support for a mouse. He's saying he used an old mouse (for the USB connection) and an xbox extension cable so he could use his xbox controller on his PC.

Instead of doing all that hard work, and spending $20... you could just go buy a Xbox to PC Adapter off of eBay here.
