Half-Life 2 and Steam

Is it true that you can use steam to play Half-Life 2 on two different computers at the same time with the same account?

i dont think so... i think steam only lets you run one copy of the game per product code. So you could have it on both comps, but not play at same time.

Two differ computers with same account at same time? Sure, one or both have to be in offline mode

Well, this has been my question and has been puzzling me for a while.

I have a steam account and a retail Half-Life: Game of The Year Edition. I registered the product key for HL on my steam account, everything works perfectly. But for some reason it recognized my standard HL as a HL Platinum Pack, so I have Opposing Force, CS, and all the mods. So, me and my brother wanted to play CS w/ eachother over steam. So I download Steam on his comp, install it and try to register my product key with his and my steam account, but it says that my CD key is already in use, which is true because I have already used it on my other computer and with my account.
So I figuerd out somewhere that I can download the steam client with all of the CS program files at fileplanet.com. So I download it on my brother's comp and it automatically works. We can play CS over steam at the same time on a lan with 1 account. In other words, I have my account logged in at two places at the same time and we are able to play over a lan. I think it might have worked because I already had HL installed on his comp.
Now, I cant see why you cant do the same with HL2. Why cant we just install it on both computers with the same account and cd key?

Hope that was understandable, sry for the long post.

well i think if you're just on a LAN you could do just about anything with a single product key. if you want to play online though, no dice.
