I installed and played it. All I can say is, WOW. The graphics are simply stunning. I'm amazed that my system runs it with the settings all the way up. How is it possible?

That's what I'm hearing a lot lately - the graphics are good while the source engine isn't that demanding for what it will show. Amazing to me too - ran it on my friend's HP which is a Radeon 9600 SE and it ran it fine. I was amazed.

Downloaded it, 1st "level" was nice looking, although I ran into a few walking sectional blobs of some sort... the 2nd level with fighting looked beautiful considering it's speed and my graphics card(a lowly Ti4200). Gotta love that Gravity gun thing... Love picking up the Table Saw blade look alikes and shooting them through all that come near... Ahh... Good times Wonder if it would run on higher settings for me...

EDIT: Hmm... No dice... It was people walking around I assume, these large black polygons sticking out in every direction, a spiky looking sphere maybe? Hmm... Ya I dont know how else to describe them

You and your crack graphic's card from outer space. It is impossible for you to be playing all these games with AA all the way up. You won't have to upgrade the rest of your life!

you guys have to remember this game was supposed to be out over a year ago, so most up to date vid cards should handle the game pretty easy.

LOL, I don't have AA and AAS all the way up they are each on 2x. I don't even want to know how it would run with those all the way up. There aren't any jagged edges anyway and the textures don't change much when seen from an angle.

That's the only problem with Valve - they have two seperate release dates. One that is announced, and one that actually happens. However, I do believe they did rewrite the source engine code just recently though - it DOES look far mroe realistic than any game I've played lately, including Doom 3.

The graphics are better than Doom III. The game is also more immersive to me than Doom III. It's scary. I hate spider-like things.

Well, I have a copy of Half-Life 2, but I refuse to play it until my new card comes in, plus Doom 3 is bundled with the card, so I'll play both eventually (by the end of the week). Is Doom 3 good?

But it runs that Excel app pretty well, huh?

And for D3, just expect a good looking shooter. Nothing else, just shooting and you should like it.

Doom 3 is an impresive game in graphics. HL2 blows it out of the water though) I did not like the fact that it was so dark everything was hard to see. I guess that added to the fright factor or somthing. But if you want to scare yourself to death turn out the lights and put headphones on when you play.

The head crabs...I can't get passed them in Route Canal - I've been stuck there for a very long time. Fear factor...talk about that and Doom III. Doom III's graphics were very good, but it's hard to discern because of its darkness...it's one scary game though. Personally, I think the Source Engine is far more efficient - better graphics yet can run on a low level system for awesome realistic graphics.

yes, without a doubt, HL2 is scary/makes you jump. I remember being 8 or somthing and playing the first HL and it scared me. I hated hearing that teleport noise, it meant somthing was trying to kill me. AAAAAAHHHHHHHH

I know what you mean! In Ravenholm, when you hear them howling from far away and you know what's comin but not WHERE, that part is freaky! I think that HL2 is the best first person shooter for PC yet. I've played it three times through already, and now I'm working on it on Hard. The enemies get so more efficient at killing and dodging, and your guns hardly make a dent in them!

I was very surprised when they rated Half Life 2 as only 9.2 on game spot - I thought though it kept us waiting forever and on away (3+ Years), it did a absolutely stunning job in showing us what the Source engine was capable of as well as the Valve's gameplay. It ranked behind games like GTA:SA, UT2k4, WoW, etc.

those with 5.1 speakers, or surround headphones have an advantage in fps games with situations like that. even with stereo speakers you can hear slightly were they are....slightly.

5.1 is definetly the way to play games like that. That's part of what made it so scary for me. I'm going to have to buy the game now.

Hi Ho, you have GOT to get this game. I bought it after seeing tons of screenshots, and I haven't touched GTA:SA for four weeks now! I'm on my 4th time through the game, this time on hard, and I'll play it even more. I haven't even play CS: S or DM yet!

OK, I just tried the demo with AA on 8x and AS on 16x. It didn't seem to have any impact on performance and yet there are no more jagged edges and angled textures are perfect. I know that's what's supposed to happen but it should also slow it down. I don't know what frame rate I'm running at. How do I find out?

I've used that before but it seems to impact performance quite a bit. Is there anything built into the game like games based on the Quake III engine where you just type "fps1" or something?
