More Steam Probs and Questions

I finally got around to buying HL2 Silver off steam instead of leeching it off my friend. I have encountered several problems just trying to start the game.

Problems
1) Half-Life 2 won't reach main menu screen and freezes at loading portion.
2) Half-Life : Source won't download, servers too busy ( Not really a problem but an inconvenience, I purchased the game )
3) Half-Life Deathmatch ammo HUD aligned incorrectly ( I don't think it lies at the middle of the screen )

There are probably more problems but I didn't start the even game yet...

Questions
1) Can Half-Life 2 or any of the products only be downloaded once? or only availible for a certain ip address?
2) I have DSL(ADSL, 768kbs)-Do I need a faster internet connection to load HL2?
3) Why is the game so darn buggy and glitchy...I had better luck with the pie rated version
4) My HL2 icon in the steam play games list disappeared....does that mean something?

If the pie rated version was so darn good why did you bother with the legal version?

Sorry I have no help to offer you...cept stop using pirated software or posting about it on PCM

Have you downloaded all the updates through steam?

What are your system specs?

Seems to be functioning properly now...but left me with a lot of negatives thoughts on Steam. I don't normally get pie rated anything, but this is before the demo was released....and my friend happened to have it. I have a system sufficient enough to play HL2. Pie rated software is nothing but garbage You could tell the scripts and triggers weren't working...but the loading times were a few seconds shorter than the legit.

Specs
Intel 3.0 GHz 800 FSB
Radeon 9800 Pro
Audigy 2 ZS Plat.
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
ADSL 768 kbs
