Is planetside worth it?
I was looking at PlanetSide and it supposed to be "amazing". I have wanted this game for a while, but my computer has always sucked. Now that im getting my own is PlanetSide worth the monthly fees?

I really doubt it, there are plenty of games that allow free online gaming and have similar features to planetside. People who play it are freaks, just like the ones who are still playing tanarus, which is a game from the year 1997 that became pay to play 2 years ago... and there are still people playing it.

its kinda tough to get into MMoRPGSs after theyve bein out for a while . Clans/alliances are formed and everything has bein done by the veterans and they dont fancy noobs who go around begging or asking to join in . Unless you can find a few buds to get into the action with you Id look for a new MMoRpg like World of Warcraft.

I would go with WoW because it looks downright good, plus my friend has it and says he loves it. I try not to play mmorpg's because then I never would get away from my computer

There are NO other games like PlanetSide. Tell me this, what game are you going to find that is an FPS where you can have HUGE battles with hundreds of people fighting to take control of a base? None that I can think of. Theres 3 factions, when the 3-way fights get goin its real fun. With the BFR's it's probably added a new spark to the game which I would love to try out but I'm already paying for WoW and don't want to start up PS again because I'll probably get addicted quick.

Joint Operations -Typhoon Rising has 150man servers running.
Plus if you look around, you can find campaign style setups. The biggest one at the moment is run by MFOTS and can be found at www.internationalconflict.com |

How in the world do you sustain a low ping with 150 men servers? That's insane.

does anyone do any online gaming with a dial up? I have a few games that I would kinda like to get into in the connected world, but each time that I have tried, it usually sucks.

Gaming online with dial-up these days is becoming very rare. You're simply not able to play online in games like battlefield 1942 with everything that goes on on-screen with so many players. Broadband is quickly becoming the requirement for online play.

You're right, I was trying to give him some hope though. I game with cable myself, but I used to try with dialup so I know how it feels. (Long time ago though)

well, what really got me started was Mech Warrior 2, and well, that is a little past its prime at this point. But maybe Star Craft, Star Lancer, Free Lancer, Combat Flight Sim, Arcanum, Red Faction. Hmmmmm, these are actually ALL kinda past their prime really, oh well. I was just wondering really what the ratio is for dial ups vs non dial ups in regards to gaming. It's probably something like 5,999,999,999 to 1, me.

You're just about right with that last part. Even xbox has gone broadband only for their gaming, and they only have up to 16 players with Halo 2, while pc games can host up to around 200 (though it's not common).
The PS2 made a mistake in introducing their online adaptor to support both broadband and dial-up. While people with dial-up are able to play online, those with broadband who are used to playing lag free will most likely shy away from the idea of playing with dial-up users. |
