I just installed it and played it for a few minutes after messing with the benchmark demo. I had to resort to speakers....I couldnt handle the headphones. I finally just had to quit playing it since it made my heart race so much. Those guys coming out of nowhere looking as real as they do is incredibly frightening.

If you think Doom is scary, you should try Silent Hill III. I have no idea if the other Silent Hill games are any good, but I got SHIII for $10 ogf the EB bargain shelf, and it's fairly frightening. I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of it.

I found THE SUFFERING scarier then DOOM III but I do agree with Alienware_Dude that the Silent Hill series is scary.

My dad came home and played it for a bit and told me it wasn't scary. Lol. I was home alone with my brother when I first played it. But yes, I am baby.

I can't wait to play DOOM, I am just waiting to save up enough money right now for a new graphics card so that I can install it, as, I have none. Isn't that a good one, I have the game, now I just need a computer. well, one that will run the game anyways. Have you heard about the movie that is coming out for the game? If things continue to go the way they are with the script, it will just plain suck.

I had to reformat my pc so I lost my saved game file, so now I get to restart from the beginning. My pc was so messed up it wouldnt let me drag anything nor copy and paste, so I wasn't able to salvage anything.

Doom 3 is a flop.
Play the demo. If you buy the game you will just play the demo over and over. Very repetitive game.

I read the ign.com article, and I've gpt two comments to make.
1: the game sold an "assload" of copies. That reminds me when I read a Hitech advertisement about "big-ass servos". Hitec is a company that make servo motors for radio controlled toys, models, robots, etc. 2: One of the new weapons is a "grabber" which you can use to hurl explosive barrels, small enemies, etc. around. *cough* *cough* HL2 gravity gun *cough* *cough*. But also, they claim to have listened to feedback. Maybe this time we'll get a better lighted atmosphere and a headlamp. I don't want none of that battery life issues either. An LED headlamp can last several days continuously these days. Don't tell me that when we can colonize Mars that we will only have several minutes of rechargeable power. Unless it's a kinetic headlamp. That makes sense. But if you're a combat engineer with a "grabber" you're gonna come prepared with batteries. Unless everyone starts using solar rechargers. But if you plan to be underground... Oh nevermind. We all know why I'm ranting. I want the expansion and I WANT IT NOW!

^Thanks, but no thanks. Doom3's expansion will have lights mounted on their guns, if not a helmet light. And also, the latest mod for Doom3 includes an anti-grav gun, just like HL2. SO he was right in his post.

I mentioned that I read the ign.com article in the first sentence of my previous post (although there is a typo which I won't edit out). I should have mentioned that it was the Doom3 expansion that I was referring to, but I thought that referring to the article was reference enough. Oh well. Anyways...
The article quotes Hooper, a participant in the expansion project: "We introduce the ionized plasma levitator designed by the UAC to move around heavy objects. It's also called the Grabber for short. You take control of this tool which ends up being a worthwhile weapon as well. You can pick up anything barrel size or smaller and hurl them around. Think exploding barrels, shovels, rocks, and even projectiles from the enemy. Imp fireballs can be grabbed and hurled back as well as the smaller creatures like the trite and cherub." |

actually, the grabber, or gravity gun, whatever anyone wants to call it, was being discussed very early in DOOM3's production, it simply never made it into the game. I think I read somewhere that it was not going to make it into the expansion pack either. It is conceivable(sp?) that since both HL2 and D3 have similar game engines, that it was only natural that both companies could have come up with the idea on their own, so realy no one copied anyone. Besides, D3 already has something like that in the game, that huge spider lookin lady with the telekinetic powers. I think that incorporating the grav gun for the player in D3 is supposed to level the playing field or something. In my opinion, the grav gun is more suited for HL2, because it is more of a puzzle game as well as a shooter if I understand it correctly, so a grav gun could make for some interesting choices as to how one solves those puzzles. But in DOOM, any one of them, I'll take the shotgun and or chainsaw any time. But really, saying D3 took the grav gun from HL2 is like saying HL2 took the machine gun from D3. They are two games with similar engines, it was only a natural choice that both games have such similar aspects then.

I haven't really considered that both projects developed their own object manipulator weapon. It might be a bit limited in Doom3 b/c there weren't really many destructable objects. I hope that if the developers change this that they won't sacrifice the detaled object textures. One of my first comments as I played the game waws "damn, that REALLY looks like a cardboard box".

I read that article on the expansion when it was posted and I thought the gravity gun was a direct rip off from HL2, but if you say that it was originally tossed around as an idea for the first game, then I guess it could be just a coincidence that they appeared in both. Some information must have been leaked or passed between the two companies via forums, dedicated fans, etc. for them both to have the same exact idea at the same time though. Question -- was the gravity gun in the version of HL2 that got stolen? If so, the guys at id could have found out about it that way and tried to figure out how to implement it into their own game. (I'm not sure if the development dates of the projects work out though for them to coincide like that). |

mmmno, I'm pretty sure that it was just a matter of course. Nothing really got stolen. I cannot recall where I heard it, I think it was on PlanetDoom somewhere.

Well, it does not work on my machine, it does not even install, and we just got this thing a couple of months ago, AFTER the game came out.
