Playing Game Movies without playing the Game

You know those movies you see when plaing games, the intros, endings, and whatnot. Is there anyway to play those videos without going into the game? Like, from the explorer? I know that most games have them tucked in some folder some where and are fairly simple to find, but others are not. Has anyone played the games STAR LANCER and or Star Craft? What about those, I can not seem to find the vids anywhere. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thankyou.

Most of games have them in proprietary format (or use the game's engine), however, RAD game tools or vlc may be able to play them.

I know there's a whole community out there that are making small movies by piecing games together, but for the life of me I can't remember what they call it? If someone knows what I'm talking about please let me know? Anyways I'm sure you can find what you looking for at http://g4techtv.com for I know that where I saw it.
