I just received the 3D Prophet II mx PCI board. I need to disable my onboard VGA adapter for it to function. I have no idea who manufactored the motherboard, this is not a name brand computer. Any ideas?

Hello Imajica,
there are different ways to do this. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some mainboards have an option for this in BIOS, another ones have a jumper on the mainboard which needs to be set another way and there are ones that automatically disable the onboard video when a video card is plugged in (I think in PCI 1 or AGP if available). But to tell you exactly how to do that we need info about the board. Look on the board. Anywhere there should be the model name. Also look for stickers on the PCI or ISA slots, there can be the model name, too. RJ

Well, then you have to try.
When you insert your card into PCI1 and start your PC, will onboard graphic be disabled ? If not, have you looked in BIOS whether there is an option to toggle onboard graphic on and off. If neither of them works, then there has to be a jumper. Hopefully it's marked so you can find it easily. RJ |

Ok, I found the mb manufacturer through the BIOS, it's made by Hising Tech Enterprizes.
It dosen't diable when I plug the new card in and there is no option. What does the jumper look like? |

Hmm. Never heard of that manufacturer.
Anyway, the jumper looks like every other jumper. It can be colored, so you can find it easier, but it doesn't have to. I'm sorry I can't help you more, because I don't know the board. Look if there is some sort of an "explanation" next to the jumper. For example, next to the jumper to clear the cmos there's written "CCMOS" or something similar, so maybe there's "VGA" or "DISPLAY" or whatever. Where did you buy your computer ? Didn't it come with a manual ? RJ |

Is it possible for you to take a digital picture of your motherboard and post it on here for all to see? I'm certain someone could identify it then.

No manual with the computer, I didn't buy it... My computer needed a motherboard, I took it to the shop, It got ripped off along with just about everything worth of value in the building, so they built me another one.
I don't have any digital photography equipment, so a photo is out. Can't locate any jumpers that look related to this... |

In this case the only thing I can say is: Take it to the shop and tell them that you want to use your GeForce 2 MX and onboard should be disabled. They should be able to accomplish this task.
