Star Wars Battlefront or Battlefield 1942
Looking for a new shooter with lots of options (vehicles, classes, weapons and wide open battles with no plot/ instant action). Here's the catch: I only play single or LAN party (i don't have internet at home, don't ask...). Is either of these worth buying for mostly single player? I love unreal tournament 2004, and more realistic games like Rainbow six, Hidden and Dangerous, and flashpoint. Are the bots skilful, or do they just wander around shooting? Any insight would be appreciated.

Despite a few modes for Single Play in Star Wars Battlefront, there are only so many maps. It runs its course fairly quickly.

With battlefront, you can only stand to play it for a few hours before you get sick and tired of it. It is *very* repetative. BF1942 I never personally cared for, since I'm more into the fast-paced FPS's.
HL2 SP is good, and valve just released Bots for CS:Source, which are very good, os you can play offline.

Do not even consider Battlefield 1942 for single player. It is meant strictly to be a multiplayer game. They threw in a single player to make it sell to those interested in single player only -- but dont fall for that.

Thanks for the heads-up. I reasoned that if Unreal tournament could be fun solo, there might be others like it. It'll do for now. Far cry is fun, but sometimes, you want a quick 30 minute action fix rather than getting bogged down with a story and long levels. Maybe Battlefield 2 will be an option.

i own bf42 and i've played battlefront extensively. after bf42, battlefront just felt like a ripoff of bf42. i've never really cared for star wars much but this game was just... odd.
bf42 is very good for multiplayer. its also got mods out the ying yang. Desert combat, desert combat extended, eve of destruction, battlefield 1918, battlefield pirates, etc. when you get tired of bf42 multiplayer, just download a mod and its like a whole new game. the single player is okay but not something that makes the game standout. the campaign is okay and i still come back to it after owning the game for 2-3 years. definately keep your eye on bf2 cause mi expect the single player part of that will be quite awesome, only beaten by its multiplayer ability. i say go for battlefield 1942. |

I'm suprised nobody wrote this before but You should just get Battlefield 1942 and then download the star wars mod which is basically same thing except sometimes vehicles will bounce after being destroyed.
