Doom 3 and GeForce 6800GT

I recently bought Doom 3 and I figured with the 6800GT I have, the game would play smoothly just like it is supposed to with this card. Can anyone think of a reason why my game skips every once and a while.

Is there a program to check the FPS on a game?

My system:
Abit AV8 mobo
A64 3500+
512MB Ram
PNY GeForce 6800GT

Probably because you have 512 ram instead of 1gig. Most newer games, especially Half Life 2 and Doom 3, love lots of RAM.

You can still get a slow frame rate in certain parts of DoomIII even with the 6800GT if the resolution (and eye candy) is set too high. 512 ram should be enough to play this game.

I don't know as for HL2 but Doom 3 is very resource intensive - the extra 512MB of RAM will definately help. GF6600GT and Doom 3 go together quite well - make full use of the awesome gameplay of Doom 3 with a gig of RAM

Besides using the command line switch, a good program is FRAPS.

I had the same problem. I think it's ram -- I have the same card as well. It runs very smoothly but then it'll stutter now and then, like when opening doors and such. I think it does this because it's trying to quickly load the next room's textures. Alas I need to go and get another stick of 512 to get myself up to a gig. The Sims 2 has this same problem -- these new games just eat ram.

Listen to Dragon he's the one who helped me out before -- we had a long long thread on this same problem.

BTW Dragon I got the bank account and ebay / paypal working.

thanks you all for your replies.

Eventually I will get another stick of 512MB RAM and see what happens.
