Counter Strike dedicated server

Hello all!

Well I'm planning on purchasing a CS server but before I do that I want to download and get familiar with a CS dedicated server before I go on ahead purchase a public server. These are the steps i took before purchasing my Halo server but I found it much much easier to download and use a Halo dedicated server.

I have heard that you have to go through your command prompt to download this, is this true? Please post links or suggestions on how to get my hands on the CS dedicated server program. I have 2 spare computers that are doing nothing and would like to have them running a CS server for my buddies so we can practice every once in a while together.

Thed dedicated server is going to be far different from the pub server. The pub server companies have thier own setups that differ from the dedicated server set up. They also have remote connecting and they will help you setit up. XGS is s good company. Just familiarize yourself with Rcon commands and you will be good. I can also give you some good cfg files and admin mods to help you out. I am an admin on a popular pub server and the admin for our CAL server. I know most of the rcon commands.

Thanks for that input Radioactiveninja, I guess the only way I would get familiar with the rcon commands is if I purchase my server first then have access to rcon commands. LOL.. I was kinda hoping I would learn all of that first before I purchase the server so I don't keep bugging them server companies because of my lack of knowledge.... so no real way to download the dedicated server? I have a spare comp with a P4 2.0Ghz w/512MB of RAM. It is not being used at all, it's just sitting there Windows XP installed and nothing else except for AVG and the latest Windows updates.
