Thumbs down KOTOR2 Problem???

I have KOTOR2 and I just made it to Dantooine and all of a sudden the game goes insanely choppy, I start to run it freezes and then all of a sudden I am on the other side of the area that I am in? It did this on KOTOR1 when I was on dantooine as well. But I decided to go to Nar Shadda and it runs fine. Any thoughts? Is it the fact that I have 1x 512 PC2700 RAM? Help!
Thanx

It's probably because the desert maps are *huge*

Should it work when I upgrade to 2x 512 PC3200?

Not so much the speed, but the extra 512 would probably make a big difference.

Sorry if I sound stupid but the extra 512 would smooth it out? I'm planning on going to a gig of PC3200 ram anyway, and wanted to know if it would smooth it out. Sorry if I forgot to say that in the first place

It should. The rest of your system should run the game fine. Everyone has their opinion on RAM, but for a gaming machine I wouldn't go with anything under 1GB.

Download Catalyst 4.12 Drivers

The issue you are having is the same one that almost everyone with certain ATI cards is having... I believe it has something to do with the new Catalyst drivers really sucking at using OpenGL... I have a Radeon 9600se and had the same problem... extreme lag on Dantooine. I couldn't even walk. What you need to do is download the 4.12 drivers from the old driver section at www.ati.com
That'll solve the problem for now... for some reason that is the best set of drivers for this game... hopefully they'll release a patch soon. Or maybe ATI will figure out some kind of workaround. The play is a hundred percent better after the driver switch though... not quite as good as it was for KOTOR 1 though it seems.

I hope that helps.

Okay this is abit late of a reply but I did have the latest drivers for the card and I just as of yesterday got 2x512 PC3200 of Ultra DDR memory from tigerdirect.com. (it was 40USD with rebates, only good on one stick though and they have now raised the price to 50usd now.) And it arrived in 2 and a half days. Dantooine still was messing up with no change from the new ram. So I checked my e-mail and found a reply from Lucas Tech support and I was told to go to the SWKOTOR2 folder in program files and open afile called swkotor2.ini. And then make a backup incase somthing went wrong. Then I was to open the file and go to a section labled Graphics Options and insert a line
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
Problem was there is no file entitled swkotor2.ini. So I started looking around in the 2-3 cofiguration files I found for Kotor2. There was one config. file entitled swkotor2, and in it there was a section labed Graphics Options. So i exited the file put a copy of it on the desktop and went in to the original file and under Graphics options I inserted this
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
So I then saved changes and started kotor2 and it works now. Then tonight I was letting myt little brother play the first Kotor game and there was the same problem on Dantooine.
So I went to Kotor in the lucasarts folder and found a configuration file called swkotor made a copy of it and then went to the original and inserted the same thing under Graphics Options
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
And viola it worked as well, so I don't know of others have had that with KOTOR or KOTOR2 but that is how it was fixed.
